Student Accommodation Coordinator

Salary: This is a part time role with an actual salary of up to £17,613.94 per annum, and a full-time equivalent salary of up to £29,063 per annum.

Working Hours: 20 hours per week over 4 days, 52 weeks per year. Generally Monday to Thursday at various times but there will be some evening work to facilitate extracurricular activities and flexibility will be required to cover staff sickness and holiday this may include evenings, nights and/or weekends.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Student Accommodation Coordinator to join our Residential Accommodation department.

The purpose of the role is to be responsible for the effective coordination of accommodation staff, rotas, student welfare and accommodation bookings.

The successful applicant must have:

  • Knowledge and understanding of supporting/working with young people aged 16-19 whether in the workplace (youth work, care, education or similar setting) or equivalent
  • Experience of lone working and working on own initiative
  • Knowledge of First Aid
  • Maths and English at GCSE A-C grade
  • Level 4 Qualification in Leadership and Management or be willing to work towards
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with staff and students
  • The ability to deal with student behaviour
  • The ability to manage a strong staff team and be effective working relationships with colleagues
  • The ability to work accurately paying attention to details
  • The ability to organise and prioritise workload
  • The ability to identify and proactively resolve problems
  • The ability to keep relevant paperwork and records up to date including timesheets, rotas and holidays
  • Ability to work on own initiative working flexibly and multitasking
  • Ability to complete manual handling activities
  • Computer literate – Using Word, Excel Spreadsheets, Outlook, etc.
  • Housekeeping/ cleaning skills

The roles main duties include:

  • Liaising with prospective residents, their parents/carers or employers re: the application procedure and to ensure that use of rooms in accommodation are maximised with financial targets being met
  • Allocating rooms to all fulltime and rotation students
  • Organising the staff rota, ensuring that 24 hour cover is coordinated to safeguard residents and comply with Ofsted national minimum standards for FE residential accommodation
  • Ensuring Health and Safety procedures are adhered to and ensure that safe working practices are observed by staff and students
  • Being a first aider
  • Preparing the various task sheets for daily, night and weekend duties
  • Ensuring all relevant paperwork and records are kept up to date
  • Liaising with Estates and suppliers to ensure that the accommodation is safe, clean and has adequate appliances for residents to use
  • Ensuring adequate stocks of cleaning and washing materials and go shopping to purchase more as required
  • Line-managing the accommodation staff team and ensure that they feel supported, challenged and developed through half termly supervision meetings, target setting and appraisals
  • Managing student behaviour issues
  • Supporting the team in covering shifts as required in cases of sickness and holidays – this may include evenings, nights and/or weekends
  • Being duty manager on a rota basis (one week in every three)
  • Being a member of the Safeguarding team (for accommodation)

This role requires you to engage in regulatory activity in the FE sector. The full definition of regulatory activity is set out in the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006 as amended by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012. Regulated activity includes teaching, instructing, caring for or supervising children if the person is unsupervised.

Grantham College operate a 4-day working week. Staff benefit from working a full-time contract over four days. You will work core hours of Monday to Thursday, working a Friday morning once a month
