London Heathrow (LHR) is the main international airport serving London. It is the largest of the six international airports in the London airport system. The airport is owned and operated by Heathrow Airport Holdings and in 2021, it was the seventh-busiest airport in the world by international passenger traffic and eighth busiest in Europe by total passenger traffic.

Costain have partnered with Heathrow Airport to deliver its new investment programme, which will provide a step-change in the customer experience and transform the airport on its journey to become a net-zero aviation hub. As a delivery partner, we will work with Heathrow throughout the project lifecycle to shape, create and deliver asset renewal and construction projects procured through the Terminal Asset Renewal Partner and Major Project Partner lots of the H7 framework.

To support the Contract SHE functions, provide, and support SHE solutions and enable the Contract / Operational Teams to implement the SHE Management System, while building and maintaining relationships with all stakeholders. The role must provide an independent and objective view of SHE Performance on the Contract.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and Influence Contract Leadership Team, Clients, and other Stakeholders in compliance with the Group SHE Management System and Contract SHE Performance
  • Support and where required deliver training, to allow the contract team to successfully implement the Group SHE Management System
  • Coach and support the Contract Operational and Supply Chain Contractors in the delivery of the Contract SHE requirements
  • Where required be actively involved in the ongoing assessment of the Contracts Supply Chain Contractors
  • Actively support the delivery of the annual Contract and Group SHE Objectives
  • Actively engage with the Contract SHE Assurance programme to ensure compliance with company and statutory requirements
  • Actively support the investigation of all unplanned events and close out of assurance findings, ensuring lessons are shared in accordance with the Group SHE Management System
  • Support the timely reporting, analysis, and use of SHE data to support and influence the Contract Leadership Team and where required support the development and implementation of data-based improvement plans
  • Play a key role with the preparation and review of SHE risk assessments, method statements and other key contract documents.
  • Build strong relationships with the wider contract disciplines, including client, supply chain and operational functions, to ensure SHE is integrated at all levels within the delivery of works.
  • Demonstrate on-site support the independent site walkovers and workforce engagement, while supporting with external and internal site audits or inspections as necessary
  • Contribute to the development of other employees with regards SHE competence, including potential management of SHE advisors and/or graduates.

To drive and manage workforce occupational health in line with company and legal requirements.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

Essential

  •  3 years SHE related experience

Desirable

  • 5 years relevant SHE experience in relevant industry

Essential

  • NEBOSH, IOSH or AIEMA or equivalent

Desirable

  • Grad IOSH or AIEMA or equivalent
