Senior Content Producer – The Make A Difference Show

CONTRACT TYPE: Fixed-term Contract, Full-time / Attachment, Full-time until 31 March 2027

DEPARTMENT: BBC Nations,  BBC Local

LOCATION: London – Hybrid

PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £45,000 - £65,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

BBC Local seeking a dynamic and insightful individual to produce the  prestigious the Make a Difference Show on Sunday afternoons presented by Gaby Roslin. The weekly show, which is networked across England,  celebrates the extraordinary contributions of individuals and organizations making a significant impact in their communities, drawing inspiration and content from the BBC’s Make A Difference Awards.  The show is mixed with high-profile celebrity interviews who also engage with the show’s theme.

The Make a Difference show is the central hub of the inspiring Make A Difference brand, which shines a light on our unsung heroes across the country. From awards ceremonies to special themed days, Make A Difference is about creating positive and inspiring content. We are looking for a producer who lives those values!

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

  • Take a keen interest in the Awards across the country:  You will need to be the oracle of all the  Make a Difference stories, from across the country and understand how we can make the most of them on Sunday afternoon, across the rest of the BBC, and with external stakeholders.
  • Story Arc: Using all tools at your disposal you’ll know how to get the best from our content from on air to visualisation, with special consideration of how to create social cut through.
  • Content Creation:  Collaborate with the presenter to develop engaging content and scripts for the show – combining celebrity interview with our unsung heroes and occasional special events, to create a warm, engaging appointment to listen on a Sunday afternoon.
  • Audience Engagement: Interact with listeners through social media and live call-ins, fostering a sense of community and excitement around the Make a Difference campaigns.
  • Understand: How to get the best from a presenter and have the ability to offer constructive feedback.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Experience: Proven experience as a radio producer in a similar role,
  • Creativity: Ability to create compelling content and think on your feet during live broadcasts.
  • Editorial decision : A thorough understanding of the BBC’s editorial guidelines, and a proven ability to make strong and robust editorial decisions.
  • Team Player: Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with the production team, presenter , and other stakeholders.
  • Passion: A genuine interest in community initiatives and the ability to convey the importance of Make A Difference to our listeners
  •  Audio skills – strong audio craft skills.
