We are currently expanding our support services team, which provides excellent service to customers around the world. We are looking for a Senior Consulting Engineer to join our global team and provide consultative support to ClickHouse enterprise customers. This position is a unique role that combines hands-on engineering, development assistance, and top-tier support, working across consultative support, engineering, and support functions. You will work directly with strategic customer groups to provide guidance, answer cases, and offer technical oversight. When not assigned to large-scale projects, Consulting Engineers are also responsible for handling customer cases at the L1–L3 support tiers.
Hiring Region: This position is for hiring in Japan. This role is not office-based, so there is no restriction on your work location within the country. However, travel will be required for in-person support for customers in Tokyo.
Responsibilities
- Project Engineering & Consulting (50% of role): As a member of customer projects, you will be involved in design, architecture, integration, implementation, and documentation. This includes research, benchmarking, performance and functional testing, reference architecture, sizing, migration, integration, development, and tooling.
- Consultative Support (50% of role): Provide case-based consultative support to strategic users, customers, and prospects, assisting with implementation, onboarding, production go-live, and PoCs (Proof of Concepts).
- Provide assistance (including hands-on work) regarding architecture, technology, and migrations.
- When not assigned to customer projects, you will act as a member of the support team, handling L1–L3 case responses and communication.
- Work closely with ClickHouse product management, engineering, and sales to contribute to the product roadmap and account plans.
- Create and support a wide range of content, including public and internal documentation, knowledge base articles, ClickHouse Learning, reference architectures, blogs, and benchmark results.
- Support the hiring and mentoring of new members as the team grows and expands.
- Be available for shifts and on-call duties to provide high-quality 24/7 support in a globally distributed environment (regional travel is expected to be up to approximately 35%).
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in professional services, support, technical account management, engineering/SRE, and/or project management.
- 5+ years of experience in a relevant industry implementing, operating, and/or supporting scalable and fault-tolerant distributed database management systems (DBMS).
- Broad and deep technical knowledge in relevant fields such as DBMS, OLAP, cloud/SaaS platforms, distributed systems software engineering, Linux/Unix, Kubernetes, system or network administration, and big data.
- Experience leading and completing large-scale technical projects in collaboration with multiple experienced engineers.
- Expert knowledge of public cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure) and their IaaS services (e.g., EC2).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using ClickHouse
- Experience with OSS (Open Source Software) and open source technologies as a user, community member, or contributor
- Experience using Azure, GCP, or AWS
- Experience with data pipelines such as Kafka, Kinesis, Spark, or RabbitMQ

Compensation
For roles based in the United States, the typical starting salary range for this position is listed above. In certain locations, such as the San Francisco Bay Area and the New York City Metro Area, a premium market range may apply, as listed.
These salary ranges reflect what we reasonably and in good faith believe to be the minimum and maximum pay for this role at the time of posting. The actual compensation may be higher or lower than the amounts listed, and the ranges may be subject to future adjustments.
