SEND Learning Support Assistant

Salary: This is a part time role with an actual salary of up to £3,760.83 per annum, and a full-time equivalent salary of up to £23,098 per annum dependent on skills and experience.
Working Hours: Various hours to suit the successful candidates up to a maximum of 26 hours per week worked over 36 weeks per year.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a SEND LSA to join our Learning Development department.
The purpose of the role is to provide a high level of classroom support to enable Lecturers in the SEND department to focus on their teaching role.
The successful applicant must have:
- An awareness of disabilities
- An awareness of SEND reforms
- An understanding of behaviour management strategies
- A minimum of two years experience of working with young people in educational, Youth work or similar OR Supporting young people in secondary schools or Further Education
- Evidence of specialism within LLDD area
- Excellent interpersonal/ communication/ written skills
- Level 2 Literacy/ Numeracy
- Learning Support Qualification
- The ability to supervise students effectively both in college and out of college in line with the behaviour policy
- The ability to work in partnership with parents/carers and teachers
- The ability to use own initiative and work flexibly
The roles main duties include:
- To compliment the professional work of the teaching staff by taking responsibility for agreed learning activities under direction of the teacher, including assisting students with additional needs to have full access to the LLDD facilities such as sensory room, adapted kitchen, sports hall, refectory etc.
- To assist with preparation of learning support documentation and resources in accordance with lesson plans and in response to learner need and support with routine administrative tasks.
- To provide verbal and written feedback on lesson content (under direction of the teacher), learning activities and students behaviour.
- Be aware of and support difference and ensure all students with additional needs have equal and full access to opportunities to learn and develop.
- Support the role of parents/carers in students learning and contribute informally to meetings with parents to provide constructive feedback on student’s progress, maintaining sensitivity and confidentiality at all times.
- With the teacher, evaluate students’ progress through a range of assessment activities.
- Support the teaching staff by contributing to SEND paperwork e.g. completing LSA support plans, contributing to Transition Plans and ILPs where applicable.
- To follow up student absences under direction of teaching staff e.g. phoning home etc.
- To carry out the duties of a LSA, supporting learners on individual/small group programmes agreed with the Curriculum Manager.
- To support learners with physical/learning difficulties.
- To attend curriculum/LSA meetings.
- To operate flexibly recognising the requirements of the learner and the requirements of classes/timetables.
This role requires you to engage in regulatory activity in the FE sector. The full definition of regulatory activity is set out in the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006 as amended by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012. Regulated activity includes teaching, instructing, caring for or supervising children if the person is unsupervised.
