Salary: This is a part time role with an actual salary of up to £20,998.18 per annum, and a full-time equivalent salary of up to £23,098 per annum dependent on skills and experience.

Working Hours: 30 hours per week over 4 days, 52 weeks per year.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Security Guard to join our Estates department.

The purpose of the role is to unlock and secure the premises, provide a visible presence and maintain a safe working environment for both students and staff and the porterage of materials and furniture around the College.

The successful applicant must have:

  • Basic knowledge in use of Intruder and Fire Alarms
  • Experience with Security and fire alarms
  • Previous experience of Key holding responsibility
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with staff at all levels
  • Computer skills (Basic understanding of Microsoft Office Word & Excel as well as Outlook email)
  • Full clean driving licence
  • Physical fitness to undertake general porterage and moving of furniture
  • A flexible in approach to work with the ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues across all departments and external organisations
  • The ability to deal with pressurised situations and confidently challenge those not adhering to the College Code of Conduct
  • Ability to work alone or as part of a team
  • Positive customer service skills and good organisational skills

The roles main duties include:

  • Provide a safe working environment for students, staff and the public.
  • Unlocking and securing the college premise.
  • Providing a visible security guard presence.
  • Being on call to respond to alarm call outs as required – training will be provided.
  • Being a trained first aider
  • Receiving incoming goods from suppliers and distributing or arranging storage
  • Driving college vehicles for deliveries and collection when necessary
  • Assisting with the moving of furniture and general items associated with the college Summer Works, exam furniture set up and for events as required.
  • Working flexibly and pro-actively within the Estates team

This role requires you to engage in regulatory activity in the FE sector. The full definition of regulatory activity is set out in the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006 as amended by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012. Regulated activity includes teaching, instructing, caring for or supervising children if the person is unsupervised.

Grantham College operate a 4-day working week. Staff benefit from working a full-time contract over four days. You will work core hours of Monday to Thursday, working a Friday morning once a month.
