THE ROLE & THE TEAM

In your role as Purchasing Manager (all genders), you work closely with suppliers for our location in Giessen and help build strong business relationships while communicating expectations and strategies clearly. You leverage your understanding of commodity group strategies to guide these interactions and manage the Request-to-Order (RTO) process. In doing so, you support the business units and contribute to optimizing the systems that ensure smooth operations.

WHY THIS ROLE IS EXCITING FOR YOU

  • You manage the Request-to-Order process for indirect goods and services, take on sourcing and supplier onboarding, and conduct negotiations with our partners

  • Translating business requirements into concrete sourcing activities is part of your responsibilities, as is providing solutions to achieve our targets

  • You advise business units on procurement tools such as eCatalogs to continuously increase the degree of automation

  • Together with experienced team members, you define and implement forward-looking commodity group strategies

  • You address operational and strategic issues and thus contribute to the continuous improvement of our processes

  • You have solid knowledge in the field of purchasing management and bring experience in managing tenders

  • Your communication is confident and precise in both German and English; additional language skills are a bonus

  • A basic technical understanding and enjoyment of working in a dynamic, interdisciplinary team characterize you

  • You have the ability to prioritize tasks effectively and have an eye for process improvements as well as a strong customer orientation

LOCATION: Giessen

Our European logistics network is growing: we are currently in the preparation phase for the opening of our new location in Giessen (Hesse), which is just one hour away from Frankfurt am Main. The 130,000 square meter state-of-the-art logistics center will be operated by Zalando and is designed for up to 1,700 employees. From this location, starting in summer 2026, customers in Germany and neighboring markets will receive their packages.

Our logistics employees ensure that more than 50 million Zalando customers in more than 25 European markets reliably receive their orders every day. Zalando today operates a Europe-wide logistics network with twelve locations in seven countries. In Germany alone, around 6,000 employees from over 100 nations work at five Zalando logistics locations.
