Process Engineering Specialist

Our Animal Health division develops and produces vaccines and pharmaceutical products for animals, with production and R&D sites worldwide. The locations in Boxmeer and De Bilt play a key role in this and operate according to the highest quality and safety standards (GxP).
Within the Manufacturing Division, Site Engineering is responsible for realizing and managing critical investment projects. In addition, the team supports the organization with technical consultancy and troubleshooting.
You will work in a multidisciplinary team of engineers and specialists, where collaboration, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement are central.
About the role
As a Process Engineering Specialist, you are responsible for the technical integrity and development of clean utilities and primary production systems. You fulfill a leading role in projects and combine in-depth process knowledge with project-based responsibility.
You act as a lead engineer within larger projects and independently take on the role of project engineer in smaller trajectories. In addition, you are a subject matter expert within your field and actively contribute to knowledge development and coaching within the team.
Tasks and responsibilities
- Act as lead engineer in larger projects under the direction of a project manager
- Act as process engineer for smaller projects, possibly supplemented with project management tasks
- Act as a subject matter expert in the field of processing and equipment:
- Clean utilities (PW, WFI, clean steam)
- Media preparation units
- Fermentation processes (bacterial and cell culture)
- Downstream processing (e.g., filtration, centrifugation, homogenization)
- Single use equipment
- Sterilization equipment/Autoclaves
- Freeze dryers
- Process control systems (PLC and DCS)
- System Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
- Design and realize custom process installations in collaboration with suppliers
- Prepare and review technical documentation (such as drawings and specifications)
- Check technical documentation prepared by suppliers regarding equipment and processes
- Support procurement, installation, and startup of systems, including validation activities
- Request and evaluate quotes for process equipment
- Responsible for assessment and execution of commissioning and qualification of systems
- Process as-built documentation in the document management system
- Coach and guide (junior) process engineers and external engineering partners
- Support internal clients in drafting customer requirements/URSs
- Check safety system calculations and verify compliance with internal and external standards
- Assess project proposals for feasibility
- Monitor that the correct project steps are followed for the processing discipline
- Implement new laws, regulations, standards, and procedures within the field
- Oversee compliance with safety regulations within all project phases
Your profile
- Completed Bachelor's or Master's degree in (Bio)chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Pharmacy, or similar
- At least 5–10 years of relevant work experience in the food or pharmaceutical industry
- Strong technical and analytical skills, including knowledge of automated systems
- Experience with process engineering and project-based work
- Good skills in technical writing and designing process technical installations
- Strong communication skills and a proactive attitude
- Proactive in identifying and implementing improvements
- Experience with executing projects and stakeholder management
- Team player with a result-oriented mindset
- Good command of Dutch and English
