Infrastructure Risk and Resilience Advisor

9 day fortnightA$111kHybrid · Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia

What happens when infrastructure fails—and how ready are we?

From sewage treatment and transport networks to community facilities, infrastructure underpins everyday life on the Gold Coast. Understanding where we are vulnerable, what safeguards matter most and how services can recover is central to a resilient city.

We’re looking for someone who can connect technical knowledge with the bigger picture: someone curious about how things work, confident asking difficult questions and able to turn complex information into practical decisions.

The opportunity

Join the City’s Enterprise Risk team in a role with scope to influence both the work we deliver and how this capability develops.

You’ll bring together asset information, operational knowledge and risk insights to help leaders understand where the City is most exposed and where attention, investment and improvement will make the greatest difference.

Working with asset owners, engineers, service leaders and resilience specialists, you’ll review significant infrastructure risks, assess critical controls and strengthen preparedness for service disruptions.

You’ll also help develop practical approaches that connect infrastructure risk with service delivery, asset management, business continuity and assurance. Your ideas and professional judgement will help shape this growing area of work.

What you’ll work on

  • Understand what matters most: Assess how infrastructure failures could affect essential services, the community and the City’s objectives.
  • Connect the information: Bring together asset criticality, service dependencies, operational insights and risk information to identify significant exposures.
  • Examine the safeguards: Identify critical controls and assess whether they are suitable, in place and working effectively.
  • Strengthen resilience: Support service and asset owners to improve continuity and recovery arrangements through reviews, exercises and lessons from disruptions.
  • Influence decisions: Turn complex findings into clear advice on priorities, risk exposure and actions required.
  • Shape our approach: Help develop and improve practical methods, tools and reporting for infrastructure risk and resilience.
  • Build capability: Coach and constructively challenge stakeholders, strengthening business ownership of risks and controls.

About you

You might come from infrastructure, engineering, asset management, risk, assurance or operational resilience. You’ll bring a practical understanding of infrastructure and an interest in influencing outcomes across a diverse organisation.

We’re looking for:

  • Relevant experience in infrastructure risk, resilience, asset management or a related discipline.
  • An understanding of infrastructure asset management principles, including asset criticality, lifecycle planning and service levels. Familiarity with IPWEA guidance or similar frameworks would be well regarded.
  • Experience assessing risks, evaluating controls or delivering assurance and improvement activities.
  • Sound analytical judgement, including the ability to question assumptions, assess evidence and work with incomplete information.
  • Strong relationship and influencing skills, with confidence engaging technical specialists, operational teams and senior leaders.
  • The ability to explain complex issues clearly and recommend practical actions that balance risk, cost and service outcomes.
  • Initiative and curiosity, with the ability to help shape an evolving area of work and carry ideas through to implementation.
  • A degree in business, engineering, asset management, risk management or a related discipline—or equivalent experience and knowledge.

Why this role?

This is an opportunity to extend your influence across a diverse infrastructure portfolio and contribute to decisions that matter to the Gold Coast.

You’ll work alongside people who understand the assets and services, bringing a risk and resilience perspective that helps them see connections, challenge assumptions and prioritise improvements.

If you want to apply your expertise, help shape a developing capability and strengthen the resilience of essential community services, we’d like to hear from you.

This is an opportunity to broaden your impact beyond an individual asset, project or service. You’ll work across a diverse infrastructure portfolio, gain exposure to enterprise decisions and help shape a growing area of the City’s risk and resilience capability.

If you want your expertise to influence decisions that matter to a city and its community, we’d like to hear from you.
