Salary: up to £102,500 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

Contract type: 12 month FTC, Full-Time

This role will be mapped internally as 'Head of On-Demand Service'.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

BBC iPlayer is seeking an outstanding Head of Operations who will lead on the development and management of specific Content and Business operations initiatives for iPlayer.

Reporting to the General Manager, BBC iPlayer, the role spans managing editorial processes, systems and operations, planning and delivering major content and business programmes as well as specifying the tools needed for teams to optimise productivity.

You’ll work closely with editorial, product, technology and business teams to improve how iPlayer plans, delivers and supports content, helping teams work more effectively and making sure audience impact remains at the centre of every decision.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT

  • Lead new operational initiatives required to support critical strategic projects spanning adaptation of workflows, processes and tools to support new content types, review of tooling to support new editorial and design needs and identifying new workflows and processes to support new service features and functions.
  • Work collaboratively with multiple teams across the organisation
  • Direct management of the iPlayer Image Design team.   Define future graphic and image needs and ensure the team are equipped to evolve and deliver.
  • Work closely with the GM and Business Ops Lead to ensure an optimised operating model and governance process is developed and implemented for iPlayer
  • Define new business process for out of hours technical troubleshooting and continue to oversee it once implemented

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

Whilst being a passionate advocate of our values and having exceptional knowledge of our audiences, their needs and expectations the successful candidate will have:

  • A solid understanding of content operations within a media organisation – preferably along with a good understanding of the various business areas and their functions within a streaming business
  • A strong background in defining operational processes to support effective and efficient business practise
  • Have strong credentials in problem solving with the ability to harness complex information and define new processes to support business needs
  • Successful track record in working collaboratively across a complex organisation with the ability to drive decision-making
  • Experience working with technical, creative and business teams
  • Ability to quickly identify key information and diagnose problems without getting bogged down in detail
  • Ability to communicate complex information to stakeholders in a clear, concise way
  • A positive, can-do leadership style with strong influencing skills
