Job Purpose
The Head of Multimedia and Social leads the development, production and distribution of digital video and social output for BBC.com, the international BBC app and associated platforms. This position oversees a multidisciplinary team of journalists and content producers and manages the integration of multimedia storytelling with social platform strategy.
The ideal candidate has a background in creating compelling shortform multimedia—and leading teams to deliver it consistently, creatively and effectively across platforms. The role is an opportunity to drive creative innovation at the BBC while strengthening the content pipeline, production systems, and distribution methods of our shortform video and social output.
The position will report to senior leadership within BBC Commercial News, and will collaborate with other stakeholders across BBC Studios, BBC News and throughout the BBC group to deliver editorial content that serves audiences, supports growth and upholds BBC values.

Key Responsibilities
• Set the editorial and strategic direction for multimedia and social output across BBC.com and connected apps.
• Provide day-to-day guidance and management for the multimedia and social team, fostering a culture of inclusion, creativity, candor, and accountability.
• Create distinctive digital video assets that cover health, business, culture, travel, technology, and other subject matters in real time, as well as longer-lead feature projects.
• Develop and maintain an efficient multimedia production pipeline, from commissioning to publication.
• Leverage BBC’s deep collection of journalism and factual output for digital distribution.
• Evolve strategy for social distribution, adapting formats for specific audiences and opportunities across existing and emerging platforms.
• Provide creative planning and idea generation for social media content and editorial campaigns, working closely with partners across BBC Studios.
• Source and leverage new production tools to enhance output and improve workflows.
• Ensure compliance with BBC editorial standards and values across all work.
• Collaborate with senior leadership to refine editorial direction in line with strategic goals.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience
• Significant experience leading editorial teams in digital video, multimedia production and social content.
• Track record of creating high-performing digital video and social campaigns.
• Proven ability to set strategic direction and deliver measurable audience and performance outcomes.
• Technical understanding of multimedia workflows, including filming, editing, and digital asset management.
• Strong editorial judgement and an understanding of global audiences.
• Enthusiasm for the BBC’s journalism, storytelling, and values.
Desired Skills
• Professional background or demonstrable interest in editorial categories such as Travel, Health, Culture, and Sport.
• Experience working with stakeholders across a larger organization to deliver factual and engaging content, both daily and in longer term projects.
• Knowledge of audience development, platform algorithms and discovery practices for multimedia content.
• Understanding of commercial editorial partnerships.

Compensation
The anticipated annual base salary for this position is $180-200k. This does not include other benefits that an individual may be eligible for. The actual base salary offered depends on the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and geographic location of the position.
Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of 2 days per week.
