PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Join the award-winning BBC Bitesize team to support and inspire classroom learning with world-class, curriculum-aligned resources. As an Assistant Producer (AP) with Bitesize for Teachers (formally BBC Teach), you’ll play a key role in delivering the highest quality classroom video material for primary and secondary schools in the UK, as well as contributing innovations and improvements to our digital platform for teachers.

WHY JOIN THE TEAM

We exist to transform lives through education. This clear vision informs the overall education strategy for the BBC. Therefore, the impact of your work could not be greater. The inspirational resources you create and commission will bring children together in classrooms across the UK, uphold the highest standards of accuracy and impartiality, support “tough to teach” topics and help teachers prepare learners for a changing world.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

  • Working to our Producer, you will commission independent production companies to produce high quality classroom video material for primary and secondary schools.
  • You will contribute throughout the commissioning lifecycle and lead some functions (from researching curriculum objectives and writing commissioning briefs, through to liaising with production companies during production and publishing final resources online).
  • You will effectively work across multiple projects simultaneously, all the while contributing to the creative and editorial direction.
  • You will work with internal and external partners and stakeholders (including subject specialist teachers) to maximise the impact of our classroom resources and uphold the highest standards of accuracy and impartiality.
  • You will deliver improvements to our website for teachers, ensuring digital resources are positioned attractively and accessibly for primary and secondary school teachers in the UK.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • You’ll have a proven ability to establish effective short- and long-term relationships with a wide range of people, including internal colleagues and external colleagues from independent production companies, partners and teacher groups.
  • You’ll possess a strong digital skillset, with technical proficiency in using web content management systems and working with digital content assets.
  • You’ll have a proven ability to contribute to multiple projects at once (with effective planning and organising skills, as well as the ability to react positively to change and shifting priorities).
  • You’ll have a good knowledge of BBC editorial guidelines and other compliance processes, and how these relate to formal education content for children and young people.
  • You’ll have experience in creating first class content for schools in the UK and the ability to research curriculum requirements accurately.

DESIRABLE:

  • Experience of using statistics and audience data to inform decisions around content.
  • Practical experience of television or online video production, or experience in an equivalent medium.
  • Experience of writing clear and concise material which may be used for briefs, scripts, or digital platforms.
  •  Awareness of financial responsibility and budgets.
  • Interest in curriculum topics including media literacy, citizenship and life skills.

If you can bring some of these skills and experience, along with transferable strengths, we’d love to hear from you and encourage you to apply.
