College of Osteopathic Medicine - Assistant Dean, Student Services

The Assistant Dean for Student Services is responsible for fostering a supportive and enriching campus environment for medical students. This position plays a crucial role in promoting student engagement, well-being, and overall success within the College of Osteopathic Medicine. This role involves collaboration with the university’s division of student affairs to create and implement programs, services, and policies that enhance the overall student experience. The Assistant Dean for Student Services reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer of the College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Key Responsibilities
1. Student Support & Success
- Oversee physical and mental health services for pre-clinical and clinical students
- Monitor student progress, identify at-risk students, and coordinate intervention strategies
- Lead development of programs that promote retention, progression, and graduation
- Collaborate with faculty and academic leadership on student performance issues
2. Student Wellness & Well-Being
- Direct comprehensive wellness initiatives, including mental health, stress management, and burnout prevention
- Coordinate access to counseling and health services (internal or external partnerships)
- Promote a culture of well-being consistent with osteopathic principles
3. Professionalism & Student Conduct
- Oversee student professionalism standards and behavioral expectations
- Manage student conduct processes, including investigations and disciplinary actions
- Support the student promotions and professionalism committees
- Ensure due process and consistency in policy application
4. Clinical Student Services
- Encourage and support facilitation of participation in community service and outreach
- Support students during clinical rotations (OMS-III and OMS-IV years)
- Support clinical affairs team in address issues related to clinical placements as they arise
- Coordinate outreach and information sharing to student support resources, including preparation for the COMLEX-USA and match process
5. Student Engagement & Community Building
- Communicate regularly with students through various channels to disseminate important information and updates
- Plan and execute student orientation program for new students, ensuring a smooth transition into the academic community
- Supervise student organizations, leadership programs, and co-curricular activities
- Foster an inclusive and supportive campus environment
- Partner with student government and affinity groups
6. Policy Development & Compliance
- Develop, implement, and maintain student-related policies and handbooks
- Ensure compliance with accreditation standards (e.g., Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation) and relevant regulations
- Contribute to accreditation self-studies and reporting
7. Data, Assessment & Reporting
- Track and analyze student success metrics
- Use data to inform program improvements and strategic initiatives
- Prepare reports for institutional leadership and accrediting bodies
- Develop and implement assessment tools to evaluate the effectiveness of student services events, programs, and initiatives
8. Leadership & Administration
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to ensure a holistic approach to student development
- Manage budgets and resource allocation for student services programs
- Serve on institutional committees and represent student affairs in leadership discussions
- Collaborate with academic departments, administrative offices, and external organization to enhance the overall student experience
- Collaborate with University Student Affairs department to ensure policy alignment with university standards and regulations, crisis management protocols, and campus shared resources
- Stay up to date with trends and best practices
- Perform such other duties as may be assigned or delegated
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in higher education administration, student affairs, counseling, or a related field
- Previous experience in student affairs withing higher education
- Knowledge of osteopathic medicine education and accreditation standards.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with relevant software for data management and communication.
- Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations related to student affairs in higher education.
