Accounting Clerk – Belgium

Our client is a well-established European fintech specialising in B2B invoice financing and is currently seeking a bilingual French/English Accounting Clerk based in Brussels. The company operates across several Western European markets and holds a regulated payment institution licence. The ideal candidate will support the Finance Manager in the day-to-day financial operations of the business, combining operational accounting with payroll support.

Responsibilities as an Accounting Clerk:

As an Accounting Clerk, you will work closely with the Finance Manager and external accountant. Your day-to-day tasks will contain:

  • Daily encoding and reconciliation of bank accounts in the accounting software
  • Processing accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions
  • Recording supplier purchase invoices and credit card statements
  • Preparing and posting journal entries
  • Preparing invoices and following up on outstanding payments
  • Reviewing and cleaning outstanding AP and AR balances
  • Preparing weekly and urgent payment runs
  • Reconciling bank statements and financial records, and checking the accuracy of reports and postings
  • Reconciling and reporting discrepancies found in financial records
  • Maintaining accurate financial documentation and filing systems
  • Supporting month-end and year-end closing processes, and assisting with audits
  • Preparing payroll and sending it to the social secretariat at the end of each month
  • Acting as HR back-up on leave, 13th month salary and certificate queries
  • Supporting employee onboarding and offboarding processes

Qualifications/Required Skills for an ideal Accounting Clerk:

An ideal candidate for the Accounting Clerk role will need to meet most of these requirements:

  • Degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 2 to 5 years of hands-on accounting experience
  • Fluent in French and English
  • Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Able to work autonomously while meeting deadlines and maintaining confidentiality
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced Fintech environment
