Intro
Do you want to work on a Legal-Tech application that functions like a digital legal department for e-commerce companies? Do you enjoy developing robust backend solutions, thinking in terms of clean business logic, clear interfaces, and maintainable systems, and do you want to design technical solutions with a real product focus? Then you are the right person as a Backend Developer (m/f/d) at Händlerbund!
With us, you will work on a platform that digitally maps and automates legal processes. From creating legal content to contract and review processes, all the way to data protection and security issues. The goal is to transform complex legal requirements into reliable, understandable, and efficient digital workflows.
In this role, you will work with Laravel on the further development of our backend, on integrations with partner systems, and on the implementation of new functional requirements. You will be part of an agile team and actively contribute to technical solutions, code quality, and the continuous development of the product.
Your tasks
- Backend Architecture & Development: Building and optimizing backend functionalities based on Laravel to ensure scalable and maintainable systems.
- Implementation of Functional Requirements: Translating requirements into clean, understandable, and testable code that remains maintainable in the long term.
- API Development & Integrations: Development and maintenance of REST and, if applicable, GraphQL APIs, as well as connection to external partner and third-party systems.
- External Services & Partner Integration: Technical evaluation and implementation of interfaces to external services and product partners.
- Code Quality & Best Practices: Ensuring high code quality through reviews, automated tests, refactoring, and clean implementation.
- Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Creating and maintaining technical documentation for APIs, interfaces, and integrations for internal and external use.
- Agile Feature Development: Participating in the planning, implementation, and improvement of features in an agile environment, including sprint planning and retrospectives.
- Technology Evaluation: Analyzing new frameworks, libraries, and tools to test and implement their benefits for product development and system architecture.
Your profile
Technical
- Experience with PHP & Laravel: Practical development of web applications using Laravel or comparable frameworks.
- Clean Backend Architecture: Understanding of maintainable systems, stable business logic, and reliable interfaces.
- API Development & Integration: Experience in creating and connecting APIs as well as working with external services.
- Quality-Oriented Approach: Structured, understandable, and clean development with a focus on maintainability and code quality.
- Agile Teamwork: Experience in agile teams, ideally with Scrum, including close collaboration and continuous exchange.
Nice to have, but not a must
- Experience with Livewire, ideally in combination with Alpine.js, Flux UI, and Tailwind CSS
- DevOps experience: Cloud systems, PaaS platforms, containers, CI/CD, or Linux server administration (e.g., DigitalOcean and Laravel Cloud)
- Experience with shop systems and developing plugins or apps for them (e.g., Shopify or JTL)
- Testing experience with PHPUnit or Pest
- Experience with event-based architectures, queues, or asynchronous processing
- Experience working with modular applications and larger codebases
- Exposure to AI-based functions, automations, or product-related AI use cases
Personal
- Systemic Thinking: You understand connections and think in terms of data flows, not just features.
- Solution-Oriented: You analyze complex challenges in a structured way and find pragmatic solutions.
- Ownership & Structure: You work independently, prioritize sensibly, and keep your commitments.
- Independent in the Project Team: You take on tasks from solution alignment to deployment, clarify open questions yourself, and seek feedback.
- Curiosity & Development: You are interested in new technologies and actively contribute new ideas.
- AI as a Tool: You naturally use AI tools in your daily development work and soberly assess where they bring real value to the product and where they do not.
Why us?
Code. Chill. Repeat.
- 4 days of code – 3 days for yourself: The 4-day week is standard here. Not a gimmick, but reality. You work remotely or in our Leipzig office – whichever way you perform best. Flexible hours, no micromanagement, full personal responsibility. And yes: permanent from the start.
- Your stack, your style: We love smart solutions, clean code, and people who think for themselves. You want to have a say, try things out, and not just work through tickets? Here you go. Plus: mentoring, further training as needed, and room for real professional growth.
- Remote first, team always: Despite being remote, the team spirit remains. We celebrate releases, have barbecues in the summer, and toast to great ideas. Your office dog is just as welcome as your favorite editor.
- Professionalism: Real quality instead of showing off. We live agile development with clear iterations and direct feedback. You work with modern, professional tools, with clear roles and responsibilities – you know exactly what your job is and have the freedom to do it the right way. Clean code, smart decisions, and a team that works together. Professionalism here means: You can focus on what you do best – developing.
- Snacks, Swag & Soft drinks: Fruit, muesli, coffee, water – all for free. No dress code. Come as you are. The main thing is that you feel comfortable.
- Perks that matter: Childcare subsidy, support for retirement planning, Leipzig job ticket, or sports offers for your balance – from home gym to fitness studio for mind and body.
