About University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust
What is University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust?
University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHB) is one of the largest NHS Trusts in England, formed in its current shape in 2010. It runs Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, Heartlands Hospital, Good Hope Hospital and Solihull Hospital, with around 22,000-25,000 staff serving the West Midlands.
Where will I work?
On-site at one of UHB's Birmingham-area hospitals (QEH, Heartlands, Good Hope, Solihull), with some corporate / digital / admin roles eligible for hybrid working.
What is the team like?
A very large NHS workforce spanning clinical roles (doctors, nurses, AHPs) alongside a substantial white-collar / corporate workforce in finance, HR, IT, digital, governance, research and operations.
Work-Life Balance
UHB's flexible-working policy formally supports compressed hours including a 9-day fortnight on full pay. From the Trust's HR flexible-working page: "Compressed hours allow staff to work their contractual hours over longer days which enables them to work a shorter week or fortnight. An example of compressed hours would be working 37.5 hours over four days instead of five … Example of a nine day fortnight: Staff can compresses their hours to have a day off every other week." The 9-day fortnight is a request-based arrangement under the Trust's wider flexible-working framework.
