About United for a Fair Economy
What is United for a Fair Economy (UFE)?
United for a Fair Economy (UFE) is a national, nonpartisan, nonprofit organisation that supports social movements working for a resilient, sustainable and equitable economy. Founded in 1994 as Share the Wealth, UFE's first few years focused on getting economic inequality "on the public's radar screen" by leading the Growing Divide workshop for a wide range of audiences.
UFE's mission has evolved: in 2014, the organisation changed its mission after its original goal — bringing economic inequality into mainstream conversation — had been accomplished. Verbatim from UFE: "Not many organizations have to change their mission because it had been accomplished. In 2014, we did just that. We're making change alongside local organizers fighting for an economy that values workers and families."
The organisation's flagship programs include Popular Economics Education and Healing for Liberation, the Responsible Wealth Network (engaging wealthy people in policy advocacy for greater wealth equity), and Building Inclusive Economies in North Carolina and Alabama.
Where will I work?
UFE's primary headquarters is at 184 High Street, Suite 401, Boston, MA 02110. The organisation also operates from two regional offices: Durham, NC (711 Mason Road) and Cullman, AL (PO Box 352). UFE offers hybrid remote options; specific details about remote work policies are not publicly stated. The organisation acknowledges Indigenous land: "We gather as guests on Indigenous land."
What is the United for a Fair Economy team like?
The 11-person staff is led by Executive Director Jeannette Huezo (also Senior Popular Educator). Mike Lapham serves as Deputy Director and Responsible Wealth Project Director. The team includes Ana Delia Espino (Director of Inclusive Economies - South), De'En Tarkpor (Operations Director), Erika Arévalo Arteaga (Executive Assistant and Popular Educator), Eroc Arroyo-Montano (Director of Cultural Organizing), Jen Douglas (Storyteller and Systems Assistant), Justice Roe Williams (Freelancer), Kayan Cheung-Miaw (Inclusive Economies Project Director), Luana Morales (Freelancer), and Victor Urquiza (Workers' Rights Organizer).
The seven-person Board of Directors comprises Elizabeth Pellerito, Duke Romero, Formeeca Tripp, Jennifer Dowdell-Rosario, Mike Muñoz, Phyllis "Sunshine" Utley, and Susan Williams. The organisation operates bilingually (English/Spanish).
Work-Life Balance
UFE's public-facing materials commit broadly to work-life balance for staff and the communities they serve, with implementation reflecting their commitment to equity and economic justice. Specific schedule details (including the 4-day work week claim referenced in the platform's directory listing) are not currently published on UFE's own website (faireconomy.org/about, /jobs, or homepage as of May 2026).
