About The Young Women's Movement

Who We Are

The Young Women's Movement is Scotland's national organisation for young women and girls' leadership and rights. We can trace our history back to April 1924 when the Scottish Council seceded from the YWCA of Great Britain and formed YWCA Scotland — making 2024 our 100-year anniversary. We rebranded as a non-religious organisation and updated our visual identity to The Young Women's Movement in 2015; in 2023 we dropped the YWCA Scotland part of our name entirely while remaining affiliated with the European YWCA.

Led by CEO Jenni Snell and Head of Programmes & Operations Emma Hill, we support all young women and girls across Scotland to lead change on issues that matter to them. We are local in action, national in impact: we meet young women where they are at across communities in Scotland, creating "safe and brave spaces" where young women can gather to learn, explore issues that matter to them and lead change. We are intersectional and inclusive — every time we say "young women", we mean all self-identifying young women and girls.

We're registered as Charity No. SC034132 and Company Limited by guarantee in Scotland No. SC246153.

Where will I work?

The Young Women's Movement is a Scotland-based organisation working across communities throughout the country, with a small core team operating in a hybrid arrangement. The /vacancies page confirms a key constraint: "we require candidates for all vacancies to have a right to work in the UK, as we unfortunately cannot offer Visa sponsorship. We are also unable to offer relocation support."

What is The Young Women's Movement team like?

Our team is organised across Leadership, Operations, Partnerships & Events, Communications, Programmes, and Research & Policy functions — each led by a named coordinator or lead. Programmes include Young Women Lead, Young Women Demand, Young Women Know, Young Women Remember, Girls With Goals, Empowering Pathways, YEquality, and 30 Under 30. Our work is supported by a 10-person Board of Trustees (Chair: Kate Tobin; Vice-Chair: Carly Elliott; Treasurer: Clare Bennett) and a 15-person Advisory Collective of young women.

We describe the team you'd be joining as "an intergenerational feminist team that will embrace your ideas and support and encourage you to bring your whole self to work."

Work-Life Balance

We operate a 4-day working week, which means full-time is 28 hours. We offer flexible working options and patterns to support how individuals work best.
