About STOP AIDS

What is STOPAIDS?

STOPAIDS is a UK-based HIV, health and human rights advocacy network, founded in 1986. The organisation draws on 35 years of experience working on the HIV response and supports UK and global movements that challenge the systemic barriers and inequalities preventing people from realising their right to health and wellbeing. STOPAIDS is a registered charity (No. 1113204) and company (No. 2589198).

Where will I work?

STOPAIDS is headquartered at 167–169 Great Portland Street, 5th Floor, London W1W 5PF. The team works hybrid — London office plus remote — with team members spread across the UK (Advocacy Co-Director Tabitha Ha, for example, is based in Manchester).

What is the STOPAIDS team like?

The staff team is approximately 14 people. Executive Director Mike Podmore leads overall organisational strategy and represents STOPAIDS externally in the UK and internationally; he is a board director of WACI Health and Stamp Out Poverty, a steering committee member of Action for Global Health UK and the Global Fund Advocates Network, and a member of the Developed Country NGO Delegation on the Global Fund board. Other senior staff include Siomha Cunniffe (Director of Development and Engagement, joined July 2015), Tabitha "Tabby" Ha (Director of Advocacy, joined 2019, Manchester-based), Courtenay Howe (Platform Coordinator for ACT-A Civil Society/Advocacy Manager), Molly Thompson (UNITAID NGO Delegation Liaison Officer/Senior Advocacy Advisor), Amina Babirye (Senior Advocacy Advisor), Molly Pugh-Jones (Advocacy Manager, Digital Health and Rights), Vivienne Price (Team Coordinator), and Nicole Woods (Finance Manager). STOPAIDS also hosts the Action for Global Health network (Director: Katie Husselby; joined April 2019) and Students for Global Health (Coordinator: Médéric Engel).

Work-Life Balance

STOPAIDS operates a 28-hour shorter working week (not 32 — corrected from prior data). Per the organisation's own page: "STOPAIDS began a 6-month pilot of the 28-hour week in October 2019. Staff retained the same amount of pay but with a reduced working time of 28-hours per week." After two independent evaluations (the second completed April 2021), the policy was made permanent. The April 2021 findings: "staff workplace stress had decreased from the baseline; all staff reported a better work-life balance and better well-being and the organisational outcomes improved or remained the same." The policy has also encouraged staff recruitment and retention. CEO Mike Podmore has spoken on the shorter working week at Bond conferences and at events hosted by the 4 Day Week Campaign; Advocacy Co-Director Tabitha Ha presented at a Bond webinar in October.
