About Shape
What is Shape?
Shape (formerly Laminar Projects, still the legal entity behind the ATS) is on a mission to digitise the construction industry — what it calls "the largest and most fundamental industry in the world, the industry that literally builds the foundations of the world we live in." Founded in 2020, the company builds software and consultancy services for major general contractors, with a product suite spanning Shift Manager, Project Gallery, Channels, Weekly Work Planner, Change Tracker, Data Book, and Issue Tracker.
A recent customer case study captures the impact: "How a major GC used Shape to deliver two high-stakes projects on time and secure 4.5% in verified cost savings."
Where will I work?
Fully remote with strong international reach. The team works "from all over the world" with a UK office at 22 Wenlock Road, London, plus a coworking space in Portugal for those who prefer on-site days. Visa sponsorships are available to work in the UK. Current open roles span the UK (Commercial Manager, Managing Quantity Surveyor), the US (Digital Construction Implementation Engineer), and the Philippines (Marketing Content & Communications Coordinator).
What is the Shape team like?
A 126-person team that explicitly frames itself as "a team of friends" — David, the co-founder & CEO, opens the careers page with a letter that quotes the dictionary: "A person whom one knows, likes, and trusts. A person with whom one is allied in a struggle or cause. This is what you can expect to be part of when you join our team. A team of friends. People who know, like and trust each other, solving interesting challenges together."
The culture is unapologetically meritocratic: "We only hire and retain the very best people. You might be used to being the smartest in the room but that won't be the case in Laminar." The flip side is unbounded development — "we are 100% meritocratic so fast progression is the norm."
Work-Life Balance
Shape runs a 4-day, 32-hour workweek with the ability to "pick which day you'd like off." Beyond the schedule, what stands out is the in-house well-being coaching: "everyone in Shape has access to expert, in-house CBT coaches to guide us in achieving our potential, both professionally and personally with 100% confidentiality." The CBT coaches are a permanent fixture, not an EAP referral.
Flexibility is framed as outcome-first: "getting things done is what really matters, not what time of day you do it. That means you don't have to ask permission for things like picking up your kids or going to the doctor, just keep your team in the loop if you think they will be affected."
