About Seeding Justice

What is Seeding Justice?

Seeding Justice is Oregon's leading funder of social change organizing. The organization began on the banks of the McKenzie River in Eugene, Oregon, in 1976 — "with a revolutionary idea: that activists, philanthropists, and those working in community should decide, together, how to use their inherited wealth to make an impact on the root causes of social inequity and environmental degradation." That gathering grew into MRG Foundation (McKenzie River Gathering), and in 2021 the organization renamed itself Seeding Justice "to better reflect our mission and work."

Today, Seeding Justice "funds grassroots movements working to overcome injustices that have harmed our communities and planet for far too long. We support emerging organizations and change makers on the frontlines fighting for social, racial gender, disability, economic, and environmental justice." Programs include the Center for Social Justice, Donor-In-Movement Funds, the Oregon Community Climate Investment (OCCI) Fund, and the Reproductive Health Equity Fund. The organization is a 501(c)(3) with EIN 93-0691187 and runs an annual Day of Giving on May 13.

We're in our 30s, 40s and 50s. We are parents of humans, plants, and animals. We've got master's degrees (and student debt) and are proud college dropouts. We're neurodivergent and neurotypical."
