About SEARAC
What is SEARAC?
SEARAC (Southeast Asia Resource Action Center) is a national nonprofit civil rights organisation founded in 1979 and headquartered in Washington, DC. The organisation advances the interests of Southeast Asian refugee and immigrant communities across the United States through policy advocacy, community empowerment, and leadership development.
SEARAC works on issues critical to Southeast Asian American communities, including immigration reform, education equity, health access, data disaggregation, and civic engagement. The organisation was established in the wake of the Southeast Asian refugee crisis and has served as a vital voice for Cambodian, Laotian, Hmong, and Vietnamese American communities for over four decades.
Where will I work?
SEARAC is headquartered in Washington, DC, and operates a hybrid work model. Team members split time between the DC office, where proximity to Congress and federal agencies supports advocacy work, and remote working. The hybrid approach provides flexibility while maintaining the in-person presence essential for effective policy advocacy.
What is the team like?
With approximately 14 employees, SEARAC is a small but impactful team of policy advocates, community organisers, researchers, communications specialists, and programme managers. Many team members have personal connections to the Southeast Asian refugee experience, bringing lived expertise to the organisation's mission.
The team is passionate, collaborative, and deeply committed to racial justice and community empowerment. SEARAC values cultural competency, intersectional approaches, and centering community voices in all of its work.
Work-Life Balance
SEARAC operates a 4-day work week with 32 hours per week at full salary. The organisation recognises that advocacy and community-facing work can be intense and emotionally taxing, and the shorter work week helps prevent burnout while maintaining the energy and focus needed for effective civil rights work. The 4-day week also reflects SEARAC's broader commitment to progressive workplace practices.
