Public Justice
Legal advocacy organization fighting systemic injustice.
Who we are
Public Justice is a nonprofit legal advocacy organization dedicated to combating systemic injustices. With headquarters in Washington, D.C., and a West Coast office in Oakland, California, we connect high-impact litigation with strategic communications to address major threats to justice, including corporate abuses, civil rights violations, and environmental destruction. We aim to win social and economic justice for all through litigation, advocacy, and partnerships.
What we do
Public Justice tackles a wide range of issues through its four main project areas:
- Access to Justice Project: Focuses on dismantling barriers in the civil justice system to ensure fair and equitable outcomes for those with less power.
- Debtors’ Prison Project: Aims to end the criminalization of poverty and reduce the carceral system by fighting against unjust fines and imprisonment for inability to pay. Students’ Civil Rights Project: This organization combats harassment and discrimination in schools and strives to create a safe and inclusive educational environment for all students.
- Environmental Enforcement Project: Fights climate change and enforces environmental laws through litigation to hold polluters accountable and secure environmental justice.
