About Public Justice
Who we are
Public Justice is a nonprofit legal advocacy organisation founded in January 1982 (originally as Trial Lawyers for Public Justice; renamed Public Justice in 2006). With a national headquarters at 1620 L Street NW, Suite 630, Washington, DC and a West Coast office at 475 14th Street, Suite 610, Oakland, CA, the organisation has spent more than 40 years connecting high-impact litigation with strategic communications to take on the biggest systemic threats to justice — abusive corporate power and predatory practices, the assault on civil rights, and the destruction of the earth's sustainability.
What we do
Public Justice runs four core project areas plus broader civil-rights, consumers' rights, and workers' rights litigation:
- Access to Justice Project — protects the civil-justice system from court secrecy, forced arbitration, and class-action restrictions
- Debtors' Prison Project — fights the criminalisation of poverty and excessive cash bail
- Students' Civil Rights Project — combats harassment and discrimination in schools
- Environmental Enforcement Project — enforces national environmental laws and holds polluters accountable
Where will I work?
From every Public Justice job description: "Public Justice operates as a remote organisation, embracing flexibility and inclusivity that remote work offers. However, recognising the value of in-person collaboration and the need for physical office space, Public Justice has an office in Washington, DC." Most roles can be based remotely or in Washington, DC. The Oakland office serves the West Coast docket.
What is the Public Justice team like?
The organisation pairs litigators with strategic communications, development, and operations staff.
