About National Arts Strategies
What is National Arts Strategies?
National Arts Strategies (NAS) is a nonprofit organisation founded in 1983 and headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia. For over four decades, NAS has supported a diverse community of arts and cultural leaders through programmes, research, and resources designed to strengthen organisations and advance the broader arts sector.
NAS works with arts leaders at every stage of their careers, offering executive education programmes, peer learning networks, research initiatives, and strategic planning resources. The organisation has built a global community of thousands of arts leaders who are driving innovation and impact in their communities.
Where will I work?
National Arts Strategies is headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia, and operates a hybrid work model. Team members combine time at the Alexandria office with remote working flexibility. The hybrid approach supports the relationship-building and programme facilitation that benefit from in-person interaction, while providing the flexibility for research, writing, and administrative work from home.
What is the team like?
With approximately 11 employees, NAS is a small, dedicated team of programme designers, facilitators, researchers, communications specialists, and operations staff. Team members are passionate about the arts and cultural sector and bring expertise in leadership development, nonprofit management, and community building.
The team values creativity, collaboration, and a deep commitment to supporting the people who lead arts organisations. Despite its small size, NAS has an outsized impact on the arts sector through its programmes and network.
Work-Life Balance
National Arts Strategies operates a 4-day work week with 32 hours per week at full salary. As an organisation that serves the arts and cultural sector, where burnout and under-resourcing are persistent challenges, NAS leads by example with progressive workplace practices. The 4-day week supports staff wellbeing and creativity, which in turn strengthens the programmes and resources they provide to the arts community.
