About Hacienda Community Development Corp
What is Hacienda Community Development Corporation?
Hacienda CDC is "a Latino-led organization dedicated to advancing the social and economic mobility of all communities," based in Portland, Oregon. The organisation was formed in 1992 to provide affordable housing and supportive services to Cully — at the time, NE Portland's lowest-income, predominantly Latino neighborhood — and has since grown into Oregon's largest Latino-led, Latino-serving housing organization. Hacienda is an Affiliate of UnidosUS.
Founded by Maria Rojo de Steffey and Clara Padilla Andrews — who together led the original purchase of the Galaxy Apartments (now Villa de Clara Vista) — the corporation has since built 11 housing communities in Northwestern Oregon, creating a portfolio of 605 units of community-centered affordable housing (with current job descriptions referencing 11 communities and 917+ affordable housing units, set to double in coming years). Programs span housing, real estate development, small business advising (including Portland Mercado and Empresarios), and Youth & Family Services (Sembrando Semillitas, Expresiones, the Richard R. Silver Memorial Scholarship and the Arrobas: Connect Initiative).
Where will I work?
Headquarters are at 6700 NE Killingsworth St., Portland, OR 97218 — the Cully neighborhood, near Portland Airport. Most administrative roles are in-person at the headquarters; some flexibility for remote work is offered. Office hours are Monday through Thursday, 9AM to 5PM, reflecting Hacienda's adopted four-day workweek.
What is the Hacienda CDC team like?
The team is mission-driven and values-led, built around five organizational values: Empowerment ("strength, resilience and power in our Latinx community"), Innovation ("social and entrepreneurial innovation as a process to disrupt systems of oppression"), Commitment, Diversity, and Trust ("being real, speaking directly and honestly at work and within our community"). Job descriptions explicitly state that "studies have shown that women and people of color are less likely to apply for jobs unless they believe they meet every single one of the qualifications" and encourage candidates to apply even if they don't meet every requirement. Veterans are explicitly welcomed and encouraged.
