About Climate Advocacy Lab
What is the Climate Advocacy Lab?
The Climate Advocacy Lab equips the US climate movement with the evidence-based insights, skills and connections needed to build durable power and win equitable solutions. Verbatim from /about: "Since 2015, we have served as critical climate movement infrastructure, making training, research expertise, and an extensive resource library free and accessible to our community of more than 4,000 climate practitioners from 1,500+ organizations across all 50 states; Washington, DC; Puerto Rico; and a number of Tribal nations."
The Lab uses social science research, data and analytics, field experiments, case studies and campaign lessons learned to help climate advocates run smarter public engagement campaigns — raising the sophistication of the field and the appetite for evidence-informed decisions. The Lab was originally incubated at the Skoll Global Threats Fund and is now fiscally sponsored by the Partnership Project. Multi-year funders include the Skoll Foundation, McKnight Foundation, William & Flora Hewlett Foundation, George Gund Foundation and Barr Foundation. The Lab is led by Director Apollo Gonzales.
Five program areas anchor the Lab's work:
- Research — actionable insights that help organisations build power and win
- Insights — sharing winning-campaign lessons across the climate community
- Trainings — building activist skills and capacity
- Community — fostering a multiracial, cross-class learning community of 3,000+ climate practitioners in all 50 states
- Partnerships — supporting organisational partners in applying insights from winning campaigns
Where will I work?
The Lab is fully remote with staff located across the United States, primarily in Eastern and Central time zones. The Lab operates as a fiscally-sponsored program of The Partnership Project Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit registered in Washington, DC.
What is the Climate Advocacy Lab team like?
The Lab is led by Director Apollo Gonzales (per the Partnership Project partners page). The team works alongside thousands of climate practitioners and partner organisations across the country. The Lab's mission is to ensure "the collective impact of the climate movement is greater than the sum of its parts" — helping movement groups engage and activate more people, more quickly, in sustained ways that build lasting power.
