About B Lab

What is B Lab?

B Lab is a nonprofit founded in 2006 that pioneered the global movement to use business as a force for good. The mission, in the organization's own words from active job descriptions: "B Lab is transforming the global economy to benefit all people, communities, and the planet. A leader in economic systems change, our global network creates standards, policies, and tools for business, and we certify companies — known as B Corps — who are leading the way."

The scale is significant. Per a current Greenhouse job posting: "our community includes 15,000 benefit corporations, over 6,500 certified B Corporations in more than 80 countries and over 150 industries, and more than 250,000 companies manage their impact with the B Impact Assessment and the SDG Action Manager." B Lab was recognized as one of Fast Company's 2020 Most Innovative Companies, and its anti-racism commitment (June 2020, updated July 2021) is published openly.

Where will I work?

B Lab Global runs a remote-first workplace. Per the careers page: "B Lab Global staff members are located around the world — Brazil, the Netherlands, the UK, and the US — specific employee benefits do vary depending on the country."

Offices in the broader B Lab network include Amsterdam (NLD), London (UK), Philadelphia (PA), New York City (NY), São Paulo (Brazil), plus the regional B Lab US & Canada offices in Denver, Oakland, and Toronto. Roles are typically tied to a country (and frequently to a commuting distance from one of these office cities).

What is the B Lab team like?

The team is built around three guiding principles published on the careers page:

  • Inclusive — "We value and embrace diversity of identities, experiences, thoughts, needs, and approaches."
  • Sustainable — "We strive to take action on the urgency of our mission at a pace that doesn't compromise engagement and care of people and place."
  • Bold — "We challenge ourselves to remain agile — testing, iterating, and failing forward to find new solutions."

The hiring approach is explicit on rejecting "culture fit" language: "We're looking for candidates who can expand our perspective and challenge business as usual."

Work-Life Balance

Vacation starts at 15 days in the first year (prorated to start date), supplemented by week-long organization-wide closures and floating holidays to support country-specific observances. Sick and personal time is unlimited: "if you need it, use it." After the first year, employees unlock 40 hours/year paid time off for community service, paid parental leave, and an annual professional-development budget.

B Lab walks its own talk on schedule innovation — the B Lab US & Canada entity adopted a 4-day, 32-hour workweek at full pay in April 2024 following a successful pilot, while other regional entities continue evolving their schedules.
