About 64 Million Artists
What is 64 Million Artists?
64 Million Artists is a UK-based creative catalyst organisation working to help everyone reconnect with their creativity to make positive change in their lives and communities. Since 2014, the company has been working to change how people feel about creativity by bringing people together to unleash their creativity, and use it to forge new connections that mobilise communities to make the changes they want to see.
The company delivers free creative resources through its Resource Library alongside paid programmes that work with leaders tackling global topics such as AI, climate change and social justice, and inspire workplaces to support their people. Founder Jo Hunter started the company after her own burnout cycle in 2017 ("It's typical of people in the creative industries. We're passionate about what we do, so we work hard without enough breaks and blur the boundaries between work and life"). 64MA is structured as a values-led organisation with a Board, Executive team, and a network of facilitators and associates.
Where will I work?
64 Million Artists operates from a hybrid setup with offices at 3 Castlemead Road, Stroud, England, and many team members working remotely or in a hybrid arrangement. The flexible working approach reflects the company's philosophy that good working relationships need nurturing and that people work best when they have agency over their time.
What is the 64 Million Artists team like?
The team is led by Rathi Kumar (Executive Director), William Warrener (Programmes Director), Jemima Frankel (Head of Public Programmes, currently on maternity leave) and Aksa Saghir (Programmes Manager). Founder Jo Hunter continues as a Leadership Facilitator alongside a network of associates including Lerato Stanley-Dunn, Douglas Lonie, Claire Sivier, Amayah Pelegrin, Ellen O'Hara and Alex Eisenberg. Research arm tialt is co-directed by Douglas Lonie and Claire Sivier. The Board comprises Sam Clarke, Kirstin Shirling, Carol Tavernier, Michaela Tranfield and Fezzan Ahmed.
The company's four values are CARE, CURIOSITY, BELONGING and COURAGE — each translated into specific everyday practices. Care means "radical rest, working a 4 day week and taking the month of August off". Belonging means actively searching for and acknowledging barriers to access. Courage means standing up for what they think is right and admitting when they're wrong.
Work-Life Balance
"We practice radical rest, working a 4 day week and taking the month of August off." Fridays are non-working days for the whole company, and the entire team takes August off as a collective break. Founder Jo Hunter describes the transition: "We've now decided to work a four-day week as a company, with everyone staying on a full-time salary. It's taken each of us some time to get used to taking Fridays off (and not overworking on the rest of the week to compensate) but we all kept reminding each other to be strict with taking Friday off and now we're all pros!"
