Sensat is a 3D geospatial data visualisation platform for large infrastructure projects. We help teams to plan and deliver projects using an easy-to-understand digital replica of their site. Today over $250bn of complex and critical Infrastructure projects are using Sensat to bring information from different tools together, better understand and communicate their project constraints and make sure everybody is on the same page.

The role

There is an exciting opportunity to join Sensat as a Geospatial Data Capture and Processing Engineer - a dynamic role with a focus on the processing and management of geospatial data alongside essential data capture duties. This position offers a blend of field and office-based tasks, enabling comprehensive involvement in project execution within Sensat’s world-class Data team. While operating the most advanced data capture equipment will be part of the role, your primary focus will be on processing the captured data to deliver high-quality and precise 3D geospatial outputs for some of the world's most complex infrastructure projects.

As a Reality Capture Engineer, you will be focused on the safe and efficient delivery of geospatial data to our key enterprise customer. You will work within Sensat’s world-class Data team alongside an experienced team of operators to deliver data for some of the world's most complex infrastructure projects.

Sensat operates only the most advanced data capture equipment, including multi-rotors, fixed-wing, terrestrial scanning and Mobile Mapping.

You will focus on the safe, efficient capture of high-quality data as well as processing it. You will ensure all projects are thoroughly planned to comply with all regulations and to ensure safety and efficiency at all times. Your role will also include the post-capture processing and delivery of data to our customers.

As of 2024, Sensat has an exciting lineup of projects based around the UK that you will have the opportunity to work on and capture. These projects are key to UK’s delivery of Net Zero by 2050, working closely with partners such as National Grid and UK Atomic Energy Authority.

What you'll be doing

  • Participating in data capture operations, including UAV piloting and terrestrial data collection, while focusing more significantly on data processing.
  • Managing and executing data processing workflows to ensure high quality and accuracy of the geospatial data.
  • Your prior data processing experience is essential to this role while data capture skillsets can be developed overtime. We will train you with data capture and advanced data processing capabilities.
  • Using advanced processing tools to handle data from various sources including UAVs (LiDAR and Photogrammetry), Mobile Mapping, and Terrestrial Laser Scanning. Sensat has invested in equipment such as the DJI M300, eBee X as well as high-end surveying equipment such as the Leica TRK 700 Neo.
  • Ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards during both capture and processing phases.
  • Collaborating with internal teams like product, engineering, and customer success to ensure a seamless project delivery that meets customer needs.
  • Overseeing the full lifecycle of data from planning through capture to processing, with an emphasis on developing processing strategies to enhance data utility and project outcomes.
  • Operating within our Data Team as a Data Capture and Processing Engineer, you’ll be be working with a team of highly skilled and professional UAV Pilots and Data Processing Engineers to execute on complex and challenging projects.
  • You will also get the opportunity to carry out terrestrial surveying - including GNSS, Laser Scanning and Mobile Mapping to give you a full spectrum of capability.
  • You will be in charge of end to end data delivery mastering the full data lifecycle; planning, capture and processing.
  • Working on the biggest and highest-profile infrastructure projects in the UK. You will travel the length of the UK, sometimes requiring overnight trips and longer stays (we include generous food and accommodation allowances).
  • You will be based remotely and you will be required to travel across the UK, with your team to capture data. The Sensat HQ is based in central London and you are expected to attend once per month.

What you'll bring

  • Preferred experience in geospatial data processing and familiarity with relevant software and technologies.
  • Capability in managing both the operational and technical aspects of data capture when necessary, with a primary focus on data processing.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in managing complex data sets and integration tasks.
  • Excellent communication abilities and teamwork skills, with experience in working collaboratively across various departments.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and improvement in both data capture and processing techniques.
  • Its desired that you hold a valid GVC (General VLOS Certificate) in Fixed-wing and/or Quadcopter.
  • You’ll have a full, clean UK Driving Licence 🚖
  • You’ll be detailed oriented, aware of risk and safety at all times ⛑️
  • You’re a strong communicator (both verbally and written)
  • You have experience delivering excellent customer service ✅
  • Proven experience working safely and calmly in high-pressure environments
  • Proven experience operating effectively as part of a team as well as individually 😻
  • You’ll go above and beyond for something that you’re passionate about
  • Curiosity and a passion for understanding complex problems or challenges
  • You enjoy working outdoors as well as in the office
