How You Will Make An Impact

thredUP and our Corporate Controller are looking for a strategic partner to continue pushing the company’s accounting team towards world-class performance. The Assistant Controller role will offer a clear path on career progression and exposure to dynamic executives that have built the strongest company and brand in a market segment ready to explode.

The ideal candidate will have a mix of Big 4 and private industry (e-commerce and/or retail) experience, and will have managed and mentored staff members.

In This Role You’ll Get To:

  • Lead the month-end close process, including reconciliations for more complex areas such as revenue, inventory, software capitalization, and equity
  • Use querying software to extract large volumes of data from our home-grown ecommerce database; analyze and validate/corroborate data against third-party information (bank statements, etc.)
  • Assist Controller in better integrating home-grown ecommerce database with Netsuite
  • Work with external auditors and prepare audit workpapers
  • Coordinate with outside tax firm to manage tax provisions, compliance, and planning. Ensure timely filing of federal, state and city tax returns and other statutory filings
  • Reconcile monthly/quarterly sales tax returns
  • Financial reporting to other departments in the organization
  • Manage accounting staff
  • Assist the Controller with technical accounting memos
  • Promote and maintain an effective internal control environment, helping in the ongoing implementation of Sarbanes Oxley

What We’re Looking For:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA certification
  • 8+ years of related experience with a combination of Big 4 Public Accounting and industry (ecommerce and/or retail) experience
  • Experience managing staff
  • Experience with payment processors such as Braintree, Vantiv, Paypal, etc.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely
  • Cost accounting knowledge and experience is a plus
  • Experience with an omni-channel company is a plus
  • Experience with Netsuite a plus

At thredUP, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. This role pays between $220,000 and $260,000, and your actual base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Many thredUP employees also have the opportunity to own shares of thredUP stock. thredUP employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, as well as a discount when purchasing thredUP stock if voluntarily participating in thredUP’s Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Subject to eligibility requirements, you’ll also receive other benefits: Comprehensive medical & dental coverage, vision, 401k, life and disability insurance.

This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
