Visual Effects Artist

Only considering candidates eligible to work in Montreal, Canada ⚠️

Position description

As a Visual Effects Artist on the Rainbow Six Siege team, you will create striking visual moments that positively influence gameplay and enhance the player experience. Whether it's smoke, fire, explosions, or even falling snow or water, each of your effects will accentuate the immersive world and often prompt the question “How did you do that?!”.

As an innovative artist, you will combine technology and creativity to create magic. You will adapt to a variety of tools, relying on your talents to produce and integrate captivating, high-quality real-time visual effects.

What you will do

  • Collaborate with the leadership team to understand the overall creative vision and prioritize visual effects.
  • Create environmental and cinematic effects using particle systems and textures you produce.
  • Work with programmers to assess needs and develop tools.
  • Respect technical constraints to create attractive and functional effects.
  • Integrate your visual effects into the game engine.
  • Develop your effects based on playtest results and feedback from collaborating team members (debug and optimize).
  • Adapt to community feedback post-launch in some cases, balancing expectations with limitations.

Qualifications

What you bring to the team

  • Experience in visual effects within the video game industry.
  • Knowledge of 2D art tools (e.g. Photoshop), compositing software (e.g. After Effects or Nuke), 3D software (e.g. Maya or 3DS Max) and game engines (e.g. Unity or Unreal).
  • Understanding of basic vector mathematics and art fundamentals (visual effects, lighting, composition, proportion, color theory, etc.).
  • Ability to accept feedback and adapt.
  • A creative and collaborative mindset.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.

Knowledge of procedural generation software (e.g. Houdini) and shader creation/optimization is a strong plus.
