Position description

As a Visual Effects Artist at Ubisoft Montréal, you will create memorable visual moments that positively influence gameplay and enrich players' experience. Smoke, fire, explosions, snowfall or waterfalls... each of your effects will strengthen immersion and make players ask: "How did you do that?"

As an innovative artist, you will combine technology and creativity to bring magic to life. You will be able to adapt to various tools while leveraging your talent to design and integrate high-quality, real-time visual effects.

What you will do

  • Collaborate with the leadership team to understand the overall creative vision and prioritize visual effects work.
  • Create environmental and cinematic effects using particle systems and textures that you produce.
  • Work with the programming team to assess needs and develop tools.
  • Respect technical constraints to deliver effects that are both aesthetic and functional.
  • Integrate your effects into the game engine.
  • Adapt your effects based on playtest results and feedback from collaborating teams (debug and optimize).
  • Adapt to community feedback after launch in some cases, balancing expectations and constraints.

Qualifications

What you bring to the team

  • College diploma in visual effects, 3D animation or a related field
  • Experience as a visual effects artist in the video game industry, ideally on a AAA project
  • Proficiency with 3D creation tools (e.g., Maya, 3ds Max) and game engines (e.g., Unreal, Unity)
  • Good knowledge of 2D tools used for texture creation or retouching (e.g., Photoshop)
  • Strong understanding of vector mathematics and artistic fundamentals (lighting, composition, color, visual rhythm, etc.)
  • Ability to receive, interpret and integrate feedback constructively
  • Creative, curious and collaborative mindset
