Role Description: As a Visual Effects Artist at Ubisoft Montréal, you will craft impactful visual moments that enrich gameplay and enhance the player experience. Smoke, fire, explosion, snow, water, and environmental effects will bring immersive and memorable worlds to life.

In this role, you will combine creativity and technology to design high-quality real-time visual effects. You will use various tools and rely on your artistic sense and technical skills to create, integrate, and optimize effects within the game engine.

What You Will Do:

  • Collaborate with creative direction to understand the overall vision and set VFX priorities
  • Create gameplay, environmental, and cinematic effects using particle systems and custom textures
  • Work with programming teams to assess requirements and support tool development
  • Design visual effects within technical constraints while maintaining strong visual impact
  • Integrate effects into the game engine and ensure real-time performance
  • Refine effects based on playtest results, including bug identification and resolution
  • Adjust effects based on feedback from collaborating teams
  • When relevant, consider community feedback post-launch

Qualifications:

  • Proven skills in real-time visual effects creation for games or interactive media
  • Hands-on experience with 3D production pipelines, including modeling, texturing, lighting, or image processing
  • Knowledge of 2D art tools, composition software, 3D software, and game engines
  • Solid understanding of fundamental art principles, including lighting, composition, proportions, and color theory
  • Understanding of basic vector mathematics applied to visual effects
  • Ability to receive feedback and adapt your work accordingly
  • Creative and collaborative mindset with strong teamwork skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities with great attention to detail
  • Experience with procedural tools, shader programming, or optimization is a plus
