Position Description: As a Visual Effects Artist at Ubisoft Montreal on the Far Cry project, you will create environmental and gameplay-related effects that enhance immersion and support the player experience at every moment. Smoke, fire, explosions, weather conditions, and water interactions: your work will help bring a believable, dynamic, and readable world to life.

You will combine creativity and technical expertise to design high-quality real-time effects. You will adapt to various tools and work closely with teams to integrate and optimize visual effects directly into the game engine, based on gameplay requirements.

What You Will Do:

  • Collaborate with the creative direction team to understand the game’s vision and establish priorities for visual effects
  • Create environmental and gameplay-related effects using particle systems and original textures
  • Work with programming teams to assess needs and contribute to tool development
  • Design effects that meet technical constraints while ensuring visual clarity and impact
  • Integrate visual effects into the game engine, ensuring real-time performance
  • Adjust and refine effects based on game test results, correcting and optimizing as needed
  • Adapt your work based on feedback from collaborating teams
  • Consider community feedback post-launch when relevant, balancing expectations and technical limitations

Qualifications: What You Bring to the Team:

  • Proven skills in real-time visual effects creation for interactive gaming experiences
  • Hands-on experience in 3D production pipelines, including modeling, texturing, lighting, or image processing
  • Knowledge of 2D art tools, composition software, 3D software, and game engines
  • A solid understanding of artistic fundamentals such as lighting, composition, proportion, and color theory
  • Understanding of basic vector mathematics applied to visual effects
  • Ability to receive feedback and iteratively adjust your work
  • Creative and collaborative mindset with a constant drive for quality
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with high attention to detail
  • Experience with procedural generation tools or with creating and optimizing rendering programs is a plus
