VFX Team Lead

Job Description

As a VFX Team Lead at Ubisoft Montreal, you will lead your team in creating high-quality, optimized visual effects while ensuring their professional growth and motivation. You will support the Production Manager (PM) in supervising work quality and meeting deadlines for a small team. You will track and validate deliverables, coach team members, and oversee certain stages of game development when necessary.

What you will do

  • Lead the team on technical (performance, integration) and artistic (textures, animations, emitters) aspects of VFX production.
  • Represent the team and act as the liaison with other stakeholders.
  • Organize and run team meetings.
  • Master the game's story, gameplay and design documents, as well as technical and artistic constraints, to guide and coach the team effectively.
  • Assign tasks and ensure regular follow-up on progress and deliverables.
  • Anticipate and identify potential conflicts and propose solutions to the Production Manager.
  • Participate in performance evaluations in collaboration with the Production Manager.
  • Coordinate the fixing of bugs related to the team's work.
  • Facilitate onboarding of new employees into the team.
  • Contribute to recruiting new team members.

Qualifications

What you bring to the team

  • Experience in visual effects in a management role within the video game industry.
  • Expert proficiency with Embergen.
  • Experience with Houdini (asset).
  • Excellent understanding of technical aspects of shaders, rendering and particle technology.
  • Initiative and strong leadership.
  • Effective prioritization and time management skills.
  • Ability to assemble and mobilize high-performing teams.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in work organization.
  • Resourcefulness and proactivity in problem solving.
  • Ability to delegate.
  • Stress and change management skills.
  • Knowledge of databases/tools (JIRA, Perforce, etc.) — asset.
  • Knowledge of technical constraints related to real-time 3D engines and level editors.
