Position description
As a VFX Team Lead at Ubisoft Montréal, you will supervise your team in creating high-quality, optimized visual effects while ensuring their professional growth and motivation. You will support the Production Manager in overseeing work quality and meeting deadlines for a small team. You will track and validate deliverables, coach team members, and supervise certain stages of game development when necessary.
What you'll do
- Lead the team on technical (performance, integration) and artistic (textures, animation, emitters) aspects of VFX production.
- Represent the team and act as the liaison with other stakeholders.
- Organize and run team meetings.
- Master the game's story, gameplay and design documents, as well as technical and artistic constraints, to guide and coach the team effectively.
- Assign tasks and follow up regularly on progress and deliverables.
- Anticipate and identify potential conflicts and propose solutions to the Production Manager.
- Participate in performance reviews in collaboration with the Production Manager.
- Coordinate fixes for bugs related to the team's work.
- Promote onboarding of new employees into the team.
- Contribute to recruiting new team members.
Qualifications / What you bring to the team
- Experience in visual effects in a management role in the video game industry.
- Expert mastery of Embergen.
- Experience with Houdini (asset/preferred).
- Excellent understanding of technical aspects of shaders, rendering and particle technology.
- Initiative and strong leadership.
- Effective prioritization and time management.
- Ability to build and mobilize high-performing teams.
- Flexibility and adaptability in work organization.
- Resourcefulness and proactivity in problem solving.
- Ability to delegate.
- Stress and change management skills.
- Knowledge of database/tools (JIRA, Perforce, etc.) — an asset.
- Understanding of technical constraints related to real-time 3D engines and level editors.
