Underwriting Service Manager

The Opportunity:
We are looking for an Underwriting Service Manager to join our growing team in Canada. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and develop the Underwriting Assistant team and work collaboratively with the Underwriting Managers.

Your new role
- Direct, motivate, develop and manage the Underwriting Assistant team and contribute and assist in the direction, motivation and development of extended service team, to ensure the overall output and quality of the service provided by the team is within specified levels
- Manage resources to ensure sufficient levels of staff are available, and aligned with business needs, especially during periods of extreme demand
- Establish and communicate the PMP targets for Underwriting Assistants within business unit, and hold regular reviews to ensure delivery of said targets
- Define the appropriate learning and development needs for the team, and ensure that these are delivered as outlined to equip employees with the skills required to perform consistently in line with agreed service levels and targets
- Support appropriate levels of cross-training amongst the extended service team to provide continuation of service during holidays and illnesses.
- Plan and manage operations to ensure priorities and targets are clearly articulated for the assigned business unit
- Develop, deliver and maintain the appropriate support process, management controls and reporting as required
- Monitor and influence processes to ensure that the extended service team activity and performance remains appropriately structured to satisfy business unit expectations
- Establish and maintain a clear and robust service control framework with an appropriate and agreed reporting structure to ensure exposures are recognized and risks managed
- Lead and monitor the service delivery to ensure a consistently accurate, quality and timely service is provided to the assigned business unit which is in line with defined targets and standards
About you
- Experience of managing people, the ability to engage, motivate, lead and develop a team (desirable)
- Strong organisation skills including work planning and ability to prioritise
- Ability to use initiative and work well under pressure
- Understanding of class specific underwriting and reinsurance knowledge with an understanding of underwriting admin processes and procedures.
- Knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements (specific reference to FSA/Lloyds regulation)
- Intermediate level understanding of Word, Excel and other departmental software packages
