Contribute to the development and implementation of channel strategic plans and motivate and develop the team by demonstrating good leadership behaviors and management best practice so as to support the achievement of business goals. Provide senior technical and specialist product expertise to intermediary/clients on the range of products offered. Responsible for underwriting activities and P&L responsibility of non-fleet motor portfolio (Private Vehicle, Commercial Vehicle, and Motorcycle)
Primary Responsibilities
- Responsible for underwriting activities of the non-fleet motor portfolio
- Responsible for managing relationship with intermediaries and business partners in the area of underwriting service delivery, product development and innovation
- Responsible for managing overall business relationship with major and local brokers for business growth
- Ensure the ongoing personal technical development to achieve ideal authorized state
- Act as a role model and demonstrate good leadership behaviors following QBE culture and discipline
- Managing a team of motor underwriters
- Support the Hong Kong underwriting function to actively manage talent (attract, recruit, develop and retain) to build people capability for the future (succession planning)
- Evaluate risk for new business & renewals in accordance with standards, to ensure profitable growth
- Actively keep abreast of market dynamics and demonstrate market cycle awareness to be able to operate effectively and appropriately
- Perform underwriting activities in accordance with all legal and regulatory requirements to ensure obligations are met
- Adhere to underwriting standards, instructions, and good practice to minimize risks and maximize efficiency
- Develop and maintain good working relationships with all customers, intermediaries and internal stakeholders
- Build strong knowledge of current legislation, best practice, underwriting acceptance levels, systems, and organizational guidelines
- Contribute to the development and implementation of channel strategic plans
- Motivate and develop the team by demonstrating good leadership behaviors and management best practice so as to support the achievement of business goals
- Provide senior technical and specialist product expertise to intermediary/clients on the range of products offered, and specifically in motor insurance area
- Key Performance Indicator on Growth & Profitability - including Renewal and New Business vs Plan, overall commission rate, expense ratio, and ultimately growth of non-fleet motor portfolio
- Key Performance Indicator Setting, monitoring, and ultimately meeting company plan on retention rate and New Business volume, Rate Adequacy, as a proxy to demonstrate portfolio is on the rate track
- Key Performance Indicator on Achieve overall local underwriting governance requirement and internal audit: Cell reviews completed timely each month, required actions identified and monitored until complete; Appropriate reporting in place across all portfolios to cover off related requirements and allow for active portfolio management
- Key Performance Indicator on improvement on operational efficiencies in various areas including but not limited to underwriting, policy servicing, and claims processing Actively engaging internal stakeholders to ensure ideas/actions are communicated and followed through
Qualifications
- University graduate, preferably in a number related discipline (such as economics degree with emphasis on econometrics)
- Relevant experience in motor insurance (or personal lines product with at least focusing in motor underwriting or pricing), preferably in Asia, ideally in Hong Kong or Singapore market
- Ability to analyze data use for decision-making
- Project management (high level) is an asset
