Position description
As a Texture Artist at Ubi MTL, you will bring an immersive world to life by creating and applying textures that give depth and dimension to everything it contains. With a mix of observation, talent and imagination, you will add the details that define characters, props and environments.
You will draw inspiration from reality to build realistic materials and adapt to new tools to get the most out of them. You will freely choose the methods that work best for you to create a final look that fits the game’s mood and makes it memorable.
What you will do
- Collaborate with the art team to understand the game’s artistic vision and set texture priorities.
- Familiarize yourself with concept art and research references to develop the visual design language.
- Work closely with level artists to understand environment needs.
- Create textures from scratch or using references or scans, and create and organize your texture library.
- Work with modelers to suggest textures and participate in 3D mapping/UV work.
- Balance artistic aspects with technical constraints.
- Refine textures and apply them to 3D models.
- Document and share knowledge and best practices.
- Revise your work based on feedback from cross-functional teams (debug and optimize).
Qualifications
What you bring to the team
- Experience in texturing, modeling, lighting, or other relevant experience
- Knowledge of 2D art tools (e.g., Photoshop) and familiarity with 3D software Maya + game engines (e.g., Unity or Unreal)
- Experience creating and managing shaders in V-Ray
- Good understanding of art fundamentals (lighting, composition, proportion, color theory, etc.), physically based rendering, and game constraints
- A creative, collaborative and innovative mindset
- Excellent observation, communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
- Motivation to seek feedback from colleagues and ability to adapt to it
- An aesthetic sensitivity and strong attention to subtle detail
