We have an incredible opportunity to join us here at Phoenix Group as a Principal Technology Solutions Lead to join Engineering team.

Location: This role could be based in either our Wythall, Telford, London or Edinburgh offices with time spent working in the office and at home.

Salary and benefits: £70,000 - £95,000 plus an indicative bonus range of 30-60%, private medical cover, 38 days annual leave, excellent pension, 12x salary life assurance, career breaks, income protection, 3x volunteering days and much more

The role

The Technology Solutions Principal leads the strategic vision and execution of technical outcomes and design decisions for the mobile and front-end practice within Systems Integration & Digital Engineering, ensuring the adoption of best practices, fostering innovation, and driving collaboration across teams. This role involves mentoring senior engineers and Technology Solutions Leads, addressing complex challenges, and ensuring alignment with group strategies.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Contributes to and drives the strategic technical vision for the mobile and front-end practice within Systems Integration & Digital Engineering, aligning it with business goals to deliver maximum value.
  • Mentors senior engineers and technical leads, promoting best practices in coding, continuous integration, and automated deployment.
  • Collaborates with Cloud Engineering to ensure robust and efficient route-to-live processes.
  • Engages in high-level design and problem-solving to guide the team through technical challenges. Identifies and addresses technical impediments.
  • Partners with Solution Architects, Product Owners and programme leadership to navigate technical complexities and accelerate development cycles.
  • Aligns technology stakeholders around the roadmap for implementing software engineering practices for higher code quality.
  • Co-owns the definition and development of reusable, scalable components aligned with the strategic IT roadmap.

What are we looking for?

  • Extensive experience in designing and implementing scalable, high-performance systems.
  • Proven experience managing complex technology ecosystems, including vendors and stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to foresee and navigate future technological trends.
  • Strong decision-making skills, with the ability to make informed choices under pressure.
  • Knowledge of Cloud Computing and Infrastructure: Deep understanding of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and infrastructure as code (IaC) practices.
