CARFAX is looking for a skilled Systems Engineer to join our Enterprise Systems Engineering team.  This team is a highly collaborative, diverse, and distributed team. Our mission is to administer, secure and improve thousands of servers and systems across the CARFAX enterprise as well as delivering new systems to meet business goals.  We expect our candidate to demonstrate a successful track record of large-scale server administration with experience configuring, administering, and monitoring on-prem environments using Infrastructure as Code.

The role of the System Engineer includes working with multiple teams to deliver both on premises and cloud-hosted solutions for externally facing websites. You will collaborate with development teams, solve complex technical challenges, gather specifications, requirements, and perform systems analysis. Our Engineers provide primary server administration for company servers by proactively keeping systems secure with bug fixes, security patches, OS and software upgrades, and technical troubleshooting.

What you'll be doing:

• Design, install, and administer on-prem systems and servers
• Building tools and dashboards using IAC and scripts to monitor, recover, automate and streamline basic functions
• Provide best practices, standards, training, and general support for both on-prem and cloud environments
• Configure hardware, peripherals, services, storage, etc. in accordance with security standards, project or operational requirements
• Design, build, and administer enterprise systems infrastructure to meet business requirements for reliability and business recovery
• Continuously analyze and evaluate our systems, products, and processes for potential improvements

What we're looking for:

• 5+ years building, hardening and administering Linux and Windows in an on prem production environment
• 3+ years experience with Prometheus, Grafana, New Relic, SNOW, general logging and event management and other observability tooling
• 5+ years writing and using configuration management systems (Chef, Ansible, Puppet)
• Experience with Python, YAML, Bash, PowerShell and other technology and scripting languages
• Advanced skills to troubleshoot various systems and technologies
• Have a broad set of technology skills - DEVSECOPS - Development, Security and Operations
• Experience with Identity and Access Management (IAM) and Privileged Access Management (PAM) solutions
• Operational experience - ready to own the uptime and quality of systems
• Demonstrated initiative to learn, document and teach

Preferred Experience

• Familiarity with F5, Gloo
• Experience with DHCP, DNS, IPAM, load balancing, and the ability to troubleshoot and diagnose server and network related items
• Experience with RabbitMQ
• Experience with Tomcat
• Experience with Active Directory, file systems management
• Experience with virtualization, VMWare, and data storage systems
• Experience with TLS and Digital Certificates, and troubleshooting the same
• Familiarity with CloudWatch, Splunk, Logstash or other logging aggregators
