Position Description:

As a Special Effects Artist at Ubisoft Montréal, you will create, integrate, and optimize real-time visual effects to support gameplay readability, immersion, and the overall player experience. Reporting to the Team Lead, you will contribute to the production of new content, including heroes, events, cosmetics, environments, and monetization elements, while respecting artistic vision, technical constraints, and production goals.

What You Will Do:

  • Create and integrate real-time visual effects for combat, environments, and cinematics in line with the art direction.
  • Produce special effects for heroes, events, environments, cosmetics, and monetization content to support gameplay and player experience.
  • Collaborate closely with game design, animation, audio, programming, and UI teams to ensure visual and functional consistency.
  • Work with the Team Lead to set priorities, adjust deliverables, and maintain visual quality.
  • Integrate effects into the game engine, ensuring performance, readability, and stability.
  • Refine effects based on team feedback and technical constraints, including debugging and optimization.
  • Adapt effects post-launch, balancing visual ambition with technical limits.
  • Contribute to polish phases and ensure high-quality output through final delivery.

Qualifications:

What You Bring:

  • Proven ability to create real-time visual effects for games or interactive media.
  • Strong understanding of gameplay readability and the role of VFX in player feedback.
  • Experience integrating and optimizing effects in a game engine.
  • Ease of working in multidisciplinary teams in a production context.
  • Solid artistic skills in rhythm, movement, color, and composition.
  • Ability to iterate efficiently based on feedback and technical constraints.
  • Attention to detail and a constant focus on visual quality.
  • Portfolio or demo reel showcasing real-time visual effects.
