Who are we?

We want to be the best place that any of our 6,600 colleagues have ever worked.

We’re Phoenix Group, we’re a long-term savings and retirement business. We offer a range of products across our market-leading brands, Standard Life, SunLife, Phoenix Life and ReAssure. Around 1 in 5 people in the UK has a pension with us. We’re a FTSE 100 organisation that is tackling key issues such as transitioning our portfolio to net zero by 2050, and we’re not done yet.

The role

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced investigator to join the Phoenix Speak Up (whistleblowing) team. Reporting into the Head of Speak Up, the successful candidate will support the delivery of our Speak Up programme, support sensitive investigations and help to ensure a culture of trust across the organisation.

Depending on the materiality of reported concerns, you will either lead or support the delivery of Speak Up investigations. This includes intake, triage, fact-finding, evidence gathering, documentation, stakeholder engagement and reporting. You will ensure that cases are progressed in line with internal protocols and relevant regulatory expectations, and that reporter safeguarding is kept central to all activity.

Beyond investigations, this role will be an active contributor to the wider Speak Up programme, helping to increase awareness of the channels available to colleagues and ensuring that those who raise concerns feel safe, supported, and heard. You will work with other teams across the business to champion psychological safety, promote a culture of trust, and reduce the stigma around speaking up.

This role is best suited to a skilled investigator who can hit the ground running. We are looking for someone who is motivated by making a meaningful impact on how the organisation responds to concerns, while supporting a respectful and ethical workplace for all.

What are we looking for?

  • Substantial, hands-on experience conducting internal investigations in a regulated environment, ideally financial services or law enforcement.
  • Strong experience conducting witness and subject interviews, using recognised models (e.g. PEACE, SUE) and trauma-informed techniques where appropriate.
  • Clear understand of the rules and principles governing evidence handling, confidentiality, disclosure and due process in a regulated context.
  • Experience in writing and delivering clear, robust and defensible investigation reports suitable for internal governance, legal scrutiny and regulatory review.
  • Strong grasp of the regulatory landscape, including PRA/FCA requirements, SMCR and whistleblower protection obligations (e.g. PIDA).
  • Strong technical skills in evidence analysis as applied to investigations and familiarity with best practice models (e.g. behavioural risk indicators, fraud triangle, BEA, CEM)
  • High integrity with a deep commitment to fairness, non-retaliation and doing what is right.
  • Ideally a background or demonstrable experience specifically in Speak Up/Whistleblowing casework – managing disclosures, safeguarding confidentiality, and navigating risk to reporters and the organisation.

We want to hire the whole version of you.

We are committed to ensuring that everyone feels accepted and welcome applicants from all backgrounds. If your experience looks different from what we’ve advertised and you believe that you can bring value to the role, we’d love to hear from you.

If you require any adjustments to the recruitment process, please let us know so we can help you to be at your best.

Please note that we reserve the right to remove adverts earlier than the advertised closing date. We encourage you to apply at the earliest opportunity.
