Job Description

How You'll Make An Impact:

Partnering with thredUP's marketing and product teams, you'll leverage your web technical expertise to craft tools to positively impact the customer lifecycle. Our team spans promotions, loyalty, notifications, and more to create an experience with customers that brings them to secondhand first. This position will be primarily focusing on Notifications, augmenting and tuning our capabilities.

Build your skill set and explore new concepts as you help shape thredUP's product engineering team and customer growth and retention in the US and abroad.

In This Role You'll Get To:

  • Architect, build, and maintain Kotlin, Java, and Ruby services to support triggered notifications and incentive programs for our millions of thrifters
  • Be paid for your opinion– you’ll contribute to other’s work through refinements, code reviews, standups and problem solving
  • Work in partnership with product managers, marketers, designers, data engineers, and data scientists to build elegant solutions to complex challenges
  • Be a model for teammates to improve through mentorship, reviews, and curating engineering excellence
  • Build in monitoring and automated code testing
  • Ensure that knowledge is shared amongst the team and prevent single points of failure or gatekeepers

What We're Looking For:

  • A proven track record of delivering secure, production grade JVM services
  • Being adept in tactful feedback through code reviews, refinements, and everyday collaboration
  • Effective communication and collaboration with non-engineering teammates
  • A deep understanding of microservice, hybrid, and monolith services and their tradeoffs
  • Understanding of HTML and RPL email templating (you will work with email developers)
  • Track record of influencing positive outcomes
  • Experience building distributed systems with a variety of types of contributors- financial reporting, data science (we use Databricks), notification systems, etc.

What Would Excite Us Even More:

  • Experience in gamification, loyalty programs, and promotions
  • Experience with MongoDB and SQL optimization
  • Experience with python and Databricks
  • Experience in thrift clothing or marketplaces
  • Experience with notification & deliverability tooling (we use Firebase and Responsys)
  • Experience A/B Testing
  • Experience with Android, iOS, or React (you will be on a team with developers that know these, but your contributions are welcomed!)

At thredUP, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. This role pays between $140,000 and $234,000, and your actual base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Many thredUP employees also have the opportunity to own shares of thredUP stock. thredUP employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, as well as a discount when purchasing thredUP stock if voluntarily participating in thredUP’s Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Subject to eligibility requirements, you’ll also receive other benefits: Comprehensive medical & dental coverage, vision, 401k, life and disability insurance.
