Job description

As our Senior Test Automation Engineer you will:

  • Champion testing within a delivery team, they take the lead in ensuring that the testing (Manual and Automated), provide the best coverage and value for team.
  • Work with other members of the testing profession within UKHO to collaborate on new testing methods and processes as well as collaborating on cross team projects.
  • Adopt an automation first approach seeking to build high quality automated tests allied to manual testing where relevant.
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplined team that includes software engineers, delivery manager and product owner.

Your day to day responsibilities will include:

  • Writing Test Automation Code, including maintaining and implementing test frameworks
  • Creating test strategies, plans and other testing documents for major/complex projects or changes to ensure appropriate test coverage, maximise defect detection prior to release and confirm customer requirements and expectations are met.
  • Designing and writing relevant tests, both automated and manual to ensure that software both meets the requirements and does not cause any unintended issues.
  • Taking an active role in software development events, such as daily scrums, sprint planning, refinement etc.
  • Coordinating and working with the other development teams to ensure that application and service’s testing ,data and security guidelines are adhered to in the design and set up of testing of applications and services

Person specification

You will have:

  • A comprehensive understanding of modern testing techniques and how these should be applied.
  • A comprehensive understanding of Test Automation, Functional testing, Non-Functional testing, and technical breadth
  • Practical experience of coding languages used for writing automated tests in .Net

SC – non reserved

This is a Ministry of Defence non-reserved post and although open to UK, British Commonwealth and European Economic Area nationals, successful applicants will require a security clearance (SC) and therefore need to have resided in the UK for a minimum of 12 consecutive months within the last 5 years.

  • A broad range of coding experience, including application of automated test frameworks. (This will include a technical test).

Process:

  • Single Stage Interview via TEAMS. You will be contacted to book a suitable slot if you are shortlisted (see our Candidate Pack for further information)
  • Interview will be with a panel of no more than 3 people and will last approx.1 hour 30 mins and in this time will include a 60 minute test.

Timeline:

  • Advert Closes for applications: 5th February 2023
  • Shortlisting date: W/C 6th February 2023
  • Interviews will take place week commencing 13th February 2023

In the event you are offered a role with us, you will be required to go through Basic Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) checks which will include Employment and Right to Work Checks.
