We’d all like amazing work to do, and real work-life balance. That’s waiting for you at Sainsbury’s. Think about the scale it takes for us to feed the nation. The level of data, transactions and variety it involves. Then you’ll realise that ours is a modern software engineering environment because it has to be. We’ve made serious investment into a Tech Academy and into setting standards and principles. We iterate, learn, experiment and push ways of working such as Agile, Scrum and XP. So you can look forward to awesome opportunities in everything from AI to reusable tech.

We’re a multi-channel, multi-brand business serving millions of customers a day, with the UK’s largest loyalty scheme and an ever-evolving set of digital platforms. All this equals over 1.2 billion transactions each year, presenting a volume, depth and complexity of data that few can match.

We don’t think we’re exaggerating when we say we have the most exciting data set in the country. And from the insights gained, we build scalable, high-performance products using cutting-edge technology that give our customers an amazing shopping experience – like our award-winning Smartshop app. In an inclusive, agile environment, you’ll have the space to be curious, to experiment, and to solve real-world challenges. And you’ll get to see your creations in the hands of millions of people across the UK.

As a Senior Product Manager, you will work closely with a variety of technology, analytics, reporting and marketing teams to advance several core strategic initiatives by building data products that improve our customer understanding, enhance our customer experience, increase the efficiency and effectiveness of our Marketing campaigns, and enable data monetisation.

More about the role

  • You'll be responsible for core Customer Interaction Data Products that are pivotal to our customer understanding and personalisation capabilities and therefore our customer experience.
  • You’ll be navigating an ever-evolving technology environment, working to capture and enable analysis of customer marketing interaction data from across all our brands and driving data solutions for campaign targeting.
  • You'll work with both commercial and technical stakeholders to steer the direction of development, interacting frequently with senior leaders and working closely with a range of teams to ensure activity is prioritised in line with the agreed product goals and metrics.
  • You'll lead a cross-functional agile Data Engineering team, in partnership with an Engineering Manager, to drive our Customer Interactions Data roadmap and development; regularly communicating progress, proactively managing risks/issues to remove blockers, and effectively prioritising, coordinating, and communicating the resolution of any production issues.
  • Always considering the market context, you’ll clearly articulate the business benefit of potential and current products, while tracking both effort and value delivery, to identify opportunities for cost reduction and quality improvement.

More about you

  • Possess knowledge and understanding of a retail business and technology landscape, and how to maximise the value that data products can and will add.
  • Clear understanding of Agile delivery and modern engineering team practices.
  • Knowledge of data product development principles and methodologies.
  • Judgement to make sometimes difficult and complex decisions at pace - comfortable dealing with ambiguous situations and helping drive toward clarity.
  • An ability to creatively solve problems and enthusiasm for delivering change through people and technology.
  • A high level of team contribution, seeking opportunities to provide input and support across the team and outside core areas of focus - a role model effective collaboration. #LI-KF1
