Overview

The Senior General Accountant will play a crucial role in managing and overseeing the financial operations within our retail electricity business. This position requires a highly detail-oriented and experienced accounting professional who can assist with financial reporting, compliance, and analysis with precision. The Senior General Accountant will ensure accurate and timely financial information, supporting strategic decision-making processes and contribute to the overall financial health of the organization.

In this role, the successful candidate will be involved with the following:

Month End Closing Activities

  • Creates and Post Unbilled Revenue Entries for Month End Accounting
  • Accrue for Power Purchases at Month End
  • Performs Volume Analysis for Revenue vs COS and books adjusting accrual at Month End
  • Maintain Rec Inventory and records monthly obligations
  • Creates and Post MTM Entries for Month End Accounting
  • Posts Exchange Activity and Reconcile to ETRM for Month End Accounting
  • Assists with KPI’s for Retail Revenue and Derivative Accounting
  • Calculates and records Income Tax and Deferred Tax
  • General Ledger reconciliations prepare or review based on account

Compliance Accounting

  • Adhere to accounting principles, company policies, and relevant regulations
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls
  • Assist in all Audits including internal, external and all tax filings
  • Assist in Budgeting process
  • Various Ad Hoc reports and request

To be successful in this role, you are likely to have the following skills/experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field. CPA is a plus
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a senior role
  • Experience in the retail electricity industry or energy sector is highly desirable
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS/GAAP and regulatory requirements
  • Enthusiastic, driven and committed to success while working under tight time constraints and pressure
  • Strong ability to work collaboratively within teams and independently
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines
  • Effective communication with 3rd Parties, internal teams, and management is essential
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
