Senior Risk Engineer

The opportunity

The position will be based in The Netherlands and you will report into the European Risk Practice Leader.

Your new role

  • As Senior Risk Engineer for QBE you will develop and deliver Risk Solutions services for QBE's European Business
  • You will be responsible for providing risk engineering technical support and management services, that assist effective underwriting decisions and support customers with understanding and managing their risks effectively, to minimise the frequency and exposure of potential losses and improve the overall quality of the risk. You will provide input and support to the Head of Risk Solutions in implementing the overall strategy of the EO Risk Solutions practice, product, and services
  • Performing site surveys on a wide range of property complex industrial activities generating technical risk engineering reports and recommendations (in both Dutch and English) to identify exposures and provide best practice risk mitigation solutions to customers
  • Carrying out Desk Top reviews from third party reports
  • You will also co-ordinate work activities with colleagues and 3rd parties who are providing support to our customers
  • Perform quality control reviews of site surveys and UW reports & recommendations produced by external Riak Engineers, monitoring the quality of RMS and compliance to technical guidelines and reporting requirements
  • Providing account engineering for key accounts by comprehensively evaluating customers’ existing risk management and loss prevention controls and supporting the development and implementation of industry best practice risk management strategies
  • Contribute to thought leadership by providing insight into current and emerging risk issues and promoting best practice risk mitigation strategies through risk management publications, presentations and training

Strategy and Planning

  • Awareness and understanding of Risk Solutions (RS) strategy, business plans and objectives
  • Manage a portfolio of key customer accounts with responsibility for the creation of customer risk management strategies and delivery of risk management services (RMS)
  • Support the delivery of operational plan and RMS within agreed service levels
  • Support the delivery of technology solutions and continuous improvement initiatives to continually expand and enhance the RMS offering
  • Plan and manage travel arrangements to ensure delivery of RMS are timely and cost effective
  • Comply with and support the development, implementation and maintenance of risk management policies, procedures, standards and guidelines
  • Support and promote procedures, technical documents, guidelines, fact sheets and other publications relevant to RS with underwriters and customers
  • Continually evaluate and identify improvements to RMS and processes to ensure efficiency and alignment to product and underwriting guidelines and best practice risk management strategies
  • Participate as subject matter expert in business improvement initiatives and risk related projects, including representing RS in working groups, committees and project teams as required

Environmental Awareness/Customer Focus

  • Support sales and growth of products through the delivery of portfolio customer RMS and developing tailored customer risk solutions in collaboration with Distribution, Product and brokers
  • Proactively promote the RS brand internally and externally, proving training sessions to underwriters, building market credibility and awareness of QBE’s RMS and capabilities
  • Contribute to thought leadership by providing customers, brokers, external providers and QBE employees with insight into current and emerging risk issues and promoting best practice risk mitigation strategies through risk management publications, presentations and training
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with underwriters, brokers and customers to create and deliver customer value and support future service provision
  • Promote and utilise the resource library of published risk management materials

Technical Performance

  • Maintain up to date knowledge of relevant regulations, industry standards and codes to support the further development of property/liability technical guidelines
  • Support the development of risk management publications, presentations, training, and technical materials
  • Help develop technical risk management capabilities across Underwriting, Product and outsourced service providers
  • Provide stakeholders with technical risk management advice, expertise and support as required
  • Actively mentor, train and support internal Risk Engineers and external providers to continually develop their technical skills and risk engineering capabilities

About you

  • Minimum 10 years’ risk engineering experience providing insurance risk management services in property/liability
  • Dutch and English language skills working proficiency. German skills language is a nice to have.
  • Comprehensive experience in loss prevention and best practice mitigation
  • Relevant tertiary level qualification (e.g. Professional Engineering degree or equivalent)
