UW Medicine Primary Care - Referral Coordination

WORK SCHEDULE

  • Temporary position - 8 months
  • Part-time, 80% FTE (32 hours per week)

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinates with team members to manage multiple work queues within Epic related to referrals from all UWM Primary Care clinic locations. Ensures that pending issues receive appropriate follow-up with the patient, insurance company and/or receiving specialist and advises referring providers and/or patients of the status of the request
  • Works independently with patients, referring/prescribing providers, specialty clinic providers and staff to facilitate referrals to the UW Medicine Health System and to process prior authorizations
  • Pre-verify and submit required paperwork and receive authorization with third-party insurance companies to assist in making referrals to specialty providers and/or processing prior authorizations
  • Manages telephone encounters, faxes, staff messages and eCare messages related to referrals and prior authorization requests and questions.
  • Partnering with all members of the clinic team to prioritize patient satisfaction and exceptional care delivery
  • Other duties as requested

REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school graduation or equivalent AND
  • Minimum of one year of customer service experience in a medical facility
  • Strong computer, phone skills, and EPIC experience preferred

OR

  • An equivalent combination of education/experience
